Within a couple of weeks I will be bringing my two new pups home to meet the family .....that is two very spoilt british shorthair cats. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to introduce the four together? I though I would start off my keeping the pups in the kitchen with a baby gate in the doorway. I figure that if the cats can see and get used to the pups gradually this would probably help. My cats haven`t had any contact with other animals as they are housekept.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Hi
I asked the very same question when I brought pup home - although I had only one cat and one pup.
When we brought pup in the house he was in a little pet carrier and we put it down into the middle of the room and cat had a little sniff . She initally hissed but then carried on sniffing .
We didnt have a clue whether cat liked dogs as she was originally a stray and she too is a house cat .
Pup was more terrified of her rather than the other way around and whenver she walked by in the first few days he was alittle nervous .
Now though its a different matter and now that hes a little bigger he thinks its great fun to try to chase her and wants to play with her . Sometimes she is understanding and will ignore him other times she is fed up with the unwanted attention and he will get a "pretend" swipe . I say pretend as thankfully she has never hit him just raised her paw.
Champdogs advisors mentioned it was a matter of time and that they would try to establish teritory etc and I think its worked . They do tolerate each other adn sometimes I even catch them together .
Dont worry - just always keep an eye on them all and be there to " referee" should anyhting look like it might need to be sorted out .
Good luck
:)
