Hallo. Is it common that progesterone levels goes up and down during heat?
My girl had prog. level 0,2 ng in day 7 in heat.
Day 12 prog levels was 1,7 ng and today on day 14 it was 1,2 ng.??!!
She had puppies last year and was breed first time on day 9 with progesterone levels that was rising very quickly.
She is a giant breed and is 5,5 year old .
Thankfull for answers.
maybe shes not going to ovulate ,could she be on a split season?

Hi
I had exactly the same with my girl, went up and down before she went past 2ng and then went up pretty much as normal. I was told by several people that this was perfectly common and not to worry. They were right, she was mated when advised and has just had 8 puppies a couple of days ago (having previously missed a couple of times). Just make sure you keep testing until she has gone past ovulation (over 8 ng), then you know she has at least ovulated. It cost me a bomb to blood test this carefully (6 tests in all) but well worth it! Good luck mrsnewfie :-)
ive learnt something new again :) i love this site!! :)
Dont think it isa split heat. She is still swollen and bleeding .
Reliefed to hear that this is relatively common.
6 bloodtests!!? Well ,guess I am going to have to do this too.
Thanks Zajak!! Good luck with your puppies!!

Yes not at all unusual :)

I understand that it can do that until they reach the point of no return so to speak at over the magic 5ng when ovulation occurs, that is why you really need to keep testing until ovulation is confirmed, as you can't rely on the usual pattern of rise before then..
Thanks everyone!!! It is giving me hope again!!
Yes I will keep on testing.
Next prog.test is on monday day 17 in heat.
Keep your fingers crossed that prog. is rising!!!
We've just had a similar experience, first test day9 1.4 second test day11 0.9, third test day13 0.4, fourth test day15 1.6
I won't bore you but 9 tests in and she never got above 1.9
Luckily I live local'ish (3hr drive) to the stud so was taking her over to the studs on my way home from dropping the bloods off with F&F we got 2 matings day 9 and 13 he was very keen and she was a tart. I was amazed as I knew her bloods were so low.
Sure enough Keith just came to scan her and was amazed that she has a belly full of puppies :-)
9 tests!?? that is alot!! I sure hope she is rising tomorrow. But when I read your story I wonder if I should take her to the stud regardless of reseults.
Today she is flagging towards my other girls and the colour of the blood is a bit lighter.
The swelling is less pronunced and more "wrinkled" if you get my point.
Thank you Millimo !! Keeping fingers crossed for an easy whelping and lots of lovely puppies for you!!

Does make you think as to the reliability then. Took one of my girls after F&F said it was time to be mated and ended up with nothing. Was thinking of trying with her again this year but have just decided that I'm not going ot have another litter from her.
Yes it does .
However, it is very obvious from Millymos story, that not all canine girls follow " the book" with rising progesterone and ovulation at 5ng wich .
Sorry you did not get any puppies. Hopefully you will next time when you decied to try.
