I know this is a common topic. I thought I had it nailed but my 7 month old Border Terrier has forgotten everything I taught her after christmas away with the inlaws. She will pee outside but when it come to number twos she waits until we have either gone to be or when we go out and poops in the lounge. I am spending on avereage 20-25 mins outside with her and still nothing, even on the old commands she used to know.

Can any one suggest anything?

If I were you I'd go right back to basics with her and treat her whenever she's 'performed' and give the command at the same time.

I take my spaniel out on a lead and don't let her off until she's done something - that she realises what she's gone out for (this also helps if she starts barking at the cats as it's quick and easy to get her in again).

Thanks, do you have your spaniel on the lead in the garden or on walks?

In the garden. She's a horror for wanting to go out and bark at the neighbours cats so whenever she wants to go outside she goes on a lead. If she doesn't want to do anything she won't go out but if she needs the loo she heads straight to the patio. When she's done what she has to do she gets a treat and run around the garden like maniacs for a few minutes :D :D

It's a pain having to do it that way but until I can get hold of an abiostop to put her off barking at the cats this is how it's got to be.

The only downside is that we have to watch her when she's walking along the pavement as she's used to doing her business whilst on her lead but as we always go out with nappy sacks its not too much of a problem.
