Do you have silver Labs in Great Britain?

OK, we know that silver is not a recognized colour.  Often when it is discussed here (Canada and U.S.) someone will say silver Labs are not Labs at all and they can prove they did not exist till sometime after a kennel that bred Weimeraners and Labs, I think back in the 1930's?  And then, poof, we had chocolates with a dilute gene.  And they will claim to add to such proof by saying there are no silver Labs in Great Britain.

Well it always seemed a bit funny to me that N. America had a monopoly on this bad breeding and nobody in Great Britain ever thought to cross a Weim and a Lab, or import a so called silver?  I mean, come on, these people are claiming there are NONE on your side of the pond, no matter how they got there.  Surely that can't be true?

Never heard of one, they would just be crossbreeds here.

I live in a hunting area so there a loads of gun dogs but iv never come across a silver lab. Perhaps a lab breeder may come along and give us a better idea.

I've never seen one either and there is a "breeder" of them near me.  I just find it incredible N. America is the only place with these bad "breeders."  But I do realize the colour fad may not have hit you.

Have to say all the photo's that I have seen I can see Weimeraner in them, the ears are wrong etc.!  Funny how they suddenly appear.....

I can't see anyone wanting to go to the expense of importing a faulty colour.

There were some imported from the USA, a few years back.  Thankfully they've never really taken off and the original importer no longer seems to be around.

Very rarely a litter will appear, but they don't seem to sell well at all despite (or perhaps because of!) the ludicrous price tag :-)

Know about them but never seen one in uk. I can see that someone could jump on colour band wagon and import one after all we have had Blue Weimar imports. They are "non standard" but being bred and sold as rare for good money :(   Know of lemon marked GSP in the USA as well ( field bred dogs) almost certainly due to cross with English Pointers somewhere but reg at GSP with AKC.   We just seem to have stacks of doodles, oodles and poo's  :(

Change "faulty" to rare, charge more money for it and I bet someone can see a reason.

OK, so I did a couple of searches and, yep, you've got 'em too.  Here they seem to be purebred as they can be registered as chocolate.  They can't be shown in conformation but they can be registered by basically lying about the colour.  Not sure if they manage to get past your registry.

So now I'm just curious how yours came to be.  Imported or your very own home bred Weim cross way back when and lied about when registered?
