I am looking at buying one - any recommendations or ones to avoid? Don't want to pay hundreds of pounds either!

What sort of coffee do you like and how much do you drink ??? Do you just want to make one cup at a time or a full jug for several people ?? Wiv or wivout froff (sorry - family joke - was said to my mother many years ago in a cafe :) )
There is a thread
here you might find useful - someone asked a similar question

Half price caffetieres in Sainsburys at the mo. Read a study on best coffee once and caffetieres came out top and they do in our house too :)
Buy decent coffee, serve in a cup and saucer and there is nothing finer for a tiny fraction of the outlay and no mountains of waste plastic :)
Oh, and if you shake your bottle of milk vigorously before pouring you can have it "wiv froff" :)

We've just bought an electric cordless percolator half-price from Scotts of Stowe and we're delighted with it.

I love my Keurig :-)

What are you thinking of?
My son bought us a Tassinmo a couple of Christmases ago, you just buy the pods of whatever you want, from all the different types of coffee to english tea and hot chocolates.
That is another alternative, or do you want a simple cafetiere?
Karen.
Wanting one that can make cappacino and frothy hot choc etc. Have a cafetiere and tradional coffee making machine, just wanted to get a bit more up to date!
I thoroughly recommend Nespresso. The coffee is really delicious & the process is very quick & easy. I would also get a milk frother (you can get them separate or integtrated into the machine) as they warm the milk perfectly - so that would work for your hot chocolate.
We run a bike business and so lots of our customers are quite serious about their coffee - this has so far scored very highly. If I ever need another I think I will stick to the same system.

caffetieres each time for me, but i do like good coffe. I just treated myself to a Dulitt (sp) coffee grinder and now i get wonderful fresh coffee each time.
another vote for a nespresso machine here - couldn't live without it now & so easy to use the kids can now make us coffee :)

Well I find the Tassimo does a good enough job for me, but I am no coffee connisseur.
