Topic Dog Boards / General / starting a new breed club

Can anyone tell me the process for starting a new breed club up in the UK?

It's for an existing breed which already has 1 club but a lot of unhappy members.

Thanks.

Blimey - good luck! Sorry, no practical advice but I think you'll need a very thick skin, and maybe a bullet proof vest lol ;-)

Thanks Esme.. I think!

Seriously, if anyone has any info let me know.  I've looked on the KC website and I can't find anything.  I've emailed them for more info but they will probably take a while to get back to me.

I think you'll be a long way down the road from KC recognition. But anyone can set themselves up as a club. Then you get yourselves a committee, have meetings, run shows - usually companion in aid of a stated charity, and do the things you all believe should be happening. After a while you can request KC recognition.

It all takes time. Alternatively some of the dissatisfied people could stand for election to the committee of the existing club. Most committees have one third up for re-election at each AGM - they serve for three years and rotate. So you could try to change things from the inside - it might be quicker.

The other thing is that you could call for a SGM (it's point 12 A on here) and that really will cause bad feeling!

Thanks Esme, that was what some of us were thinking - it would be quicker to change it from the inside...
