I certainly wouldn't be worrying about 1kg with my very small breed. You will be surprised how much of it is just fluid. I don't limit food either, unlike some who insist that the pups will be too big. I won't argue the point, because we all have our own opinions, but I feed what they need.
I can't be doing with people who have bitches that are skin and bones after whelping. I expect my girls to have something to fall back on if they're poorly.
thankgod for that jean im feeling so bad for her im not going to worry now and she can have a good handfull with her food i think i can feel 4 pups but time will tell :) thanks jean x
I felt awful for my bitch with her first litter, she was ever so thin when she whelped, purely because she refused to eat for the most part of the pregnancy. I felt like people would think I'd neglected her! Thankfully she's far better this time and healthier weight but it was one of the biggest worries last time.
WhiteLilly, good luck, I know my girl put on that easily by day 40 and looked very big! I didn't fret it though and fed her as much as she needed, so long as she's fit and healthy for whelping and not overweight or fat, it's good enough for me.
shes a very fit girl untill the snow came shes not been out for a walk in a week now but im sure thats not going to harm her my daughter has always walked her and from getting older shes had an hour every day sometimes more just depends... so wants this snow to go so she can have a walk if she wants to :) i do worry to much :( shes not over weight so im going to stop being silly now :) thanks waggamama x

My normally 8.5lb girl was 12.5lb just before whelping 3 pups 7.75ozs.8.10ozs and 7.15ozs, she ate well throughout,no sickness at all.
The last week I struggled to tuck her under my arm.
not a small breed sorry but my girl was 31kgs before mating and was 40kg at whelping, sorry not too sure what that is in pound, about 68lb and 88lb i think
so thats from start (mate) to whelp?? her pup are around 5oz at birth i do think shes carrying 4 pups i can feel 4 lumps away lol x
how many pups did she have powerpuffgirl?? x
only 5 pups, smallest was 550grams and the biggest was 650. she has since had a second litter but didnt weigh her this time around
