Do you wear them out in the cold weather, walking the dogs or if you are just out?

I hate gloves and can't bear the feel of them on my hands so never wear them and don't even possess a pair, but everyone I see out has them on.

Am I the only one that doesn't wear or own gloves?.

I don't own a scarf either, although I am feeling the cold round my neck this year (probably my age) so am thinking I might have to invest in a cheap one.

Do any of you not wear or own scarves either?
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 20.01.13 13:42 UTC
I couldnt go out without!! It tends to be the men who wear less ie no scarfs etc but my chap has just gone out looking like a michelin man, complete with hat and gloves =)  my hands take so long to warm up if I forget to wear them and I find the get very sore from the leads rubbing them.
Each to their own though :D

I wear skiing gloves and hubby wears the ones with fingers- but I don't like the finger one's they don't keep your hands warm.
We have to cause after walking Moose we will throw the ball/Frisbee and ur hands get pretty cold not to mention the slobber lol
so cold & wet.
I don't wear scarves but I do wear one of those neck warmers or Ubertube (mines just a lil one looks like a head band lol) and also a  Balaclava
and my big winter boots lol plus I wear ski pants
I'm always cold so I dress for the weather- well I'm out to enjoy a fun time with my hubby & dog and no fun for her if I get cold and wanna go home.
I can also tumble in the snow with her this way.

I wear gloves and a scarf, but I don't do hats as I have very long hair and I find hats just slide off. My gloves have little dots of I think silicone on the palms and up the fingers so I can grip in them when I'm driving. They get wet very quickly hence why I have 8 pairs!
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 20.01.13 14:22 UTC
I almost never wear a scarf. I do wear gloves sometimes, though I tend to find after 10 minutes that my hands have warmed up through exercise, so I take them off. I often wear gloves for driving in this weather though. I find a hat quite nice to wear too. :-)
- By WolfieStruppi [gb] Date 20.01.13 14:26 UTC
I wear fingerless gloves and usually forget to take them off(!), a fleece neck tube and usually a fleecy hat which is warmer than the hood on my long wax riding coat. It's a right palaver getting all togged up to go out and still come in looking like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards.

I'll only wear scarves for decorative purposes, not to keep warm.
- By kayenine [gb] Date 20.01.13 14:26 UTC
I got some expensive sealskinz gloves for Christmas. I love them, I can put leads on and pick up poo without taking them off, make snowballs for the dogs while my hands stay warm and dry, and they've got grip on the palms so use them for driving as well :-)

Just tagging on ,not in reply to anyone special.
I wear leather gloves ,I find that they are best for gripping leather leads, have a few scarves & a pull on woollen hat, with my glasses perched on top ,I would not win any beauty pagents but am warm & cosy.Body warmer under kagol type jacket.
I started wearing leather gloves whilst training/walking my last puppy, now wont be without as he turned into a nibbler of my left hand,he's given it up now but I am never without my gloves.

I know that look lol. I'm at an age where I don't care what I look like so long as I'm warm lol

I have a circulation problem in my hands and toes so have to wrap them up very cosy every time I go out. It is a right pain though when the gloves get wet and my hands start to freeze :-( I've started taking a second pair out with so I can change them.

I've just purchased some brilliant ski gloves in the Trespass sale. They're waterproof, have leather on the palms and up the fingers, and have a cosy fleecy lining. Plus, they've got toggles attached which keep the gloves on your wrists if you need to take them off. The only downside is that they're white/grey!! Not the best colour for keeping clean when you're picking up a slobbery tennis ball lol!

I have fleece hats but my favourite is a cosy knitted hat with fleece lining and platted bits down the sides.

We have neck tubes here, but also have a lot of different scarves, I haven't put any on yet this winter.

My best purchase this winter has been some snow boots (again from Trespass). They lace up like hiking boots & are super warm. Can honestly say I haven't had cold feet since wearing these.

I boughtsome waterproof riding gloves from an equestrian site, great at keeping my hands warm but they are very awkward when it comes to picking a ball up or clipping and un-clipping leads, I end up having to keep taking them off so they dont get used much.

Kayenine which Sealskinz gloves did you go for?  I'm looking for some recommendations!

Regarding scarves: I tend to wear an Original Buff all day everyday at the moment - I hate turtleneck or poloneck jumpers and a Buff does the job so much better.  If I'm really cold I pull the Buff up to cover my ears (like a head scarf) and add a fleece neck tube for added warmth.   A cute bug Buff here

I've recently lost a lot of weight and I'm freezing this winter.  I'm truly amazed at the amount of warmth a simple neck covering can provide.  I've also ditched man made fibres in favour of Merino Wool layers - lots and lots of them.  I'm currently wearing 2 pairs of socks, long johns with trousers, and 5 top layers.  That's indoors in front of an open fire! :)

I got them for Christmas so I've no idea what types there are LOL

No gloves, no hats, no scarves here can't be doing with being bundled up to tight although need to have warm feet :-)

i wear a second skin base layer top that lots of sports payers wear. It is no thicker than a vest but amazingly keeps you so so much warmer

Yes I don't like feeling constricted by clothing either!

Like Fred's mum I wear a thin thermal layer of t shirt and long johns - Primark sell an inexpensive range of these (pic here) - and then I add a Merino Wool base layer too (my favourite ones are from Kathmandu)
- By LJS Date 21.01.13 11:16 UTC
I go out without socks , gloves , scarfs or hat unless it is snowing and do wear a hat.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 21.01.13 11:19 UTC
I have Reynaud's Syndrome so sometimes need to wear gloves indoors, let alone outside! Scarves are wonderful at keeping out draughts, but I hate wearing hats.
- By CVL Date 21.01.13 11:24 UTC
Oooh which sealskinz did you get? I never wear gloves because it's a faff with leads and poobags. I've often wondered if these gloves would help, but there are so many different varieties I didn't know which would do the job!
- By freelancerukuk [gb] Date 21.01.13 12:00 UTC
I don't know why you hate the feel of gloves but do know that some people can not abide the feel of wool against their skin. Anyhow, it is possible to get silk liners for gloves and of course silk scarves can keep you very warm if tied close to the skin.
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 21.01.13 14:28 UTC
LOL nope dont wear that many extra layers either I'm a hardy northern Lass only concesson to the cold is socks dont normally wear them.
No central heating and back door open all year round as well.

Oh my days I'm shivering at the thought of no c.h and door open all year round!! My heating has been on all day every day for the past week and had it on timer to take the chill off the house since september. And I go to bed with a hot water bottle =)

It says on the box "waterproof breathable close fitting ultra grip gloves with Merino wool"

They look about right

I always lose gloves and have had all sorts, including sealskinz but never find any I get a decent feel in other than the thinnest of thin rsl riding gloves.  I generally end up taking them off and dropping them frequently though.  I do suffer terribly with cold hands but just tend to live with it.  I do like to tuck my hair up in a hat out of tha way though.  I have a variety of scarves, coats and ultra warm socks.
- By freelancerukuk [gb] Date 21.01.13 17:28 UTC
Riding gloves with silk liners work well.
- By PDAE [gb] Date 21.01.13 20:15 UTC
LOL don't have any but I was sat in the house freezing yesterday with a pair of lovely soft bed socks on my hands :)
- By Dogz Date 21.01.13 21:21 UTC
You could do yourself a good turn by looking to the 'earbags'. I hate hats too, earbags are going on my next birthday present list, I have one pair but another wont go amiss.

Karen :)
- By cracar [gb] Date 22.01.13 17:04 UTC
I'm scared going out sometimes incase I fall over.  I'd be like a weeble bouncing back up again!lol  I wear Soooooo many clothes to go out, and to stay in, and to go to bed!!
I NEED gloves but I wear fingerless ones(poo picking up and phone) with the mitten bit to cover my cold fingertips. I have a thermal bunnet too that I love cos it makes my head sweat :) Also, a scarf is a must!
My best pressie was a thermal, fleecy onsie that my OH bought me!! How well he knows me  :)

But....went out running last night, in a blizzard, wearing......knee length running leggings, tight t-shirt and a thin hoodie.  Only thing I added extra were my fingerless gloves!!lol  And I was ROASTING...
- By Brainless [gb] Date 23.01.13 11:15 UTC
Even if I can't hold the leads properly with them on I can't poop scoop with gloves, so like you I don't bother as I just loose them.

Scarves again if not tucked into a jacket get in the way when you bend to clip leads/poop scoop, have lost them in the past.
- By dogs a babe Date 23.01.13 11:24 UTC

> Scarves again if not tucked into a jacket get in the way when you bend

That's exactly why I only use circle or snood type scarves - anything long and loose is a nuisance!!
- By cutewolf [gb] Date 23.01.13 12:57 UTC
I have Raynaud's Syndrome too so really struggle in this weather. I'm beginning to think I need to invest in some Sealskinz gloves and socks because what I currently wear doesn't make the slightest bit of difference! I have awful chilblains on my toes, the worst I've had for years. Going from cold to warm places causes immense pain in my fingers.

I usually double up on gloves and socks (sometimes triple with the socks) but I do find it difficult walking dogs with gloves - my lead hold doesn't feel safe enough and I have to take the gloves off to use poo bags.

I have never worn scarves and I don't really know why. Too busy trying to deal with the cold in my hands and feet to worry about other areas I suppose!
