Topic Other Boards / Foo / Chicken Salt???

When we were down in Cornwall about 9 years ago we had Chips at a chip shop in Lizard point.
They had chicken salt, which to this day my boys rave about and have asked me to find ever since.
I have never been able to find it or the recipe for it, so much so I am begining to wonder if we imagined it!!!

Does anyone know if I have or know where to buy it or have a recipe for it please :) :)
Lea :) :)

You can buy chicken salt but you might need to shop online for it or consult an Aussie - see one variety here.  You can also make your own using chicken stock cubes mixed with salt - just experiment with the amounts.

Making flavoured salt is pretty easy - I like rosemary salt which works amazingly well with anything but absolutely fantastic with chips!!  Just strip the rosemary leaves, put into the blender with coarse salt or rock salt, and blend for a few minutes (I use the slightly damp grey sea salt that we buy in France)

I love chicken salt! The only place I've had it is in Australia on chips, so yummy, never seen it around here so I just use chicken stock cubes on my homemade wedges to try and replicate it!

This was mentioned on the Saturday kitchen program yesterday.  The chef said he pulled the skin off a chicken, baked it in the oven til crisp & crushed it up. I didn't get whether he mixed it with salt after or used it on its own.

It could be bought off the shelf in NZ along with yummy lemon pepper salt.  It tastes just like salt mixed with dry chicken stock cubes to me, tbh I think that is exactly what it was.

Thankyou for all your ideas, I didnt think of using stock cubes and salt to make it.
Sam saw it on saturday kitchen, thats what reminded us. But couldnt find it on their recipe site.
I have looked online but have never found anywhere that sells it.
I have a Mate in New Zealand, would they be allowed to send it to britain do you recon??
Thank you all for your help :) :)

I'm in Australia and use chicken salt all the time - the kids love it :)

My parents took some home to Englsnd with them after their visit last year and it wasn't a problem at customs or anything so you should be ok getting some sent over.

Ooh, they sell Tim Tams!
Think of a Penguin biscuit but twice as thick, twice as much filling, and really thick chocolate.....

Best when you nibble off each end and such coffee through it, and then shove in your gob before it all falls apart in your hand!
