Is Kennel Cough caused by dog being in the cold? My bitch has started coughing, I first herd her this morning after she barked, but its getting more frequent now. Im a bit worried as I also have a 9 week old pup in the house, Im sure she will also catch it?.

No, kennel cough is a virus and dogs catch it much the same as humans catch a cold; from another infected dog. You do need to be wary with a young pup as the dogs most at risk from complications are young pups and old dogs, but it doesn't follow that the pup definitely will catch it. Best to see your vet with the adult for a definite diagnosis and have a word about the pup, but make sure to leave the dog in the car and do not bring into the waiting room.

As per Goldmali's post ... and to re emphasise, if you suspect your dog of having kennel cough then DO NOT take it into the waiting room, ask the vet to go out to your vehicle.

She has probably caught it from Manchester ch show on Thursday.

It's a bit late now, but for future reference it probably wasn't a very good idea to take her to a show with a 9 week old puppy in the house.

Doubt it was Manchester -the incubation period is around a week to ten days.

No it won't be from there; the incubation period is longer than that.

There is a possibility that she would be shedding/spreading the virus at Manchester if she is showing signs now.

Took our eldest to the vet a few days before Christmas, waiting room full of dogs, woman sitting with her dog that is allowed to do the rounds of saying hello to everyone else, eventually goes in & afterwards having waited to pay for some five minuets turns to the rest of us smiling 'oh suppose I should tell you that hes got kennel cough'. Not my best moment as I swore & asked why with a cough they hadn't both waited outside 'oh why should we he's not well'.
