Myself and Partner live outside London near the River Thames and are looking to purchase a cocker spaniel bitch. I work from home part time during the week. We have only two rabbits and have always had dogs in our family homes when younger. As we love walking and exploring the countryside we are looking for an active family friend to join us on our rambles, now that we feel we have the time and are responsible enough to care full time for a dog. Although we have not owned a cocker spaniel (previous family friends ... cavaliers and terriers) we have done alot of research into the right breed for us and them.

We would be looking to purchase a puppy in the next 6 months, no real colour preference, temperment and personality key (older dog considereds). Looking to spend between £2-£300. We in return would offer a loving home. Please contact me on the numbers below if you can help further or offer any advice in our search.

Hello Caroline

I'm afraid you will be unlikely to locate a Cocker puppy from a reputable breeder for the price range you mention - the average price of a pup is £400-£500. You do occasionally see pups advertised for much lower prices but these are often the products of puppy farms & should be avoided if you want a healthy, well-adjusted pup. You may be able to locate an older Cocker within your price range, though young bitches are extremely popular & sell v quickly.
I suggest you contact Mrs Moore (Secretary of the London Cocker Spaniel Society) who may be able to assist you in your search. Her tel no is 01206 303374

Regards

Jane

Caroline

I support what Jane has said on price for a Cocker. If you are limited to £200 - £300 at the present time and really want a young puppy, please wait a little longer and save the money you would have spent on food etc to build your fund up so that you can buy one from a reputable breeder. It will be well worth the wait.

Good luck and best wishes
