Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Infection in possibly in whelp bitch? (locked)
- By Zajak [gb] Date 16.12.12 22:48 UTC
My bitch was mated 17 days ago.  She has had an opaque white discharge for the last couple of days, no smell at all or colour.  I noticed today that she seems to need to wee a little more often.  Only small amounts but seems to need to go a little more regularly than usual.  She is not drinking any more.  She was sick (white froth) on day 8 and on day 16.  She is very well in herself, not off her food, etc.  Any comments gratefully received.

she could have a water infection with her weeing more? but the white discharge sounds normal if no smell id just make sure with the vet for the xtra weeing...,my girl is 2weeks today from 1st mate i havnt seen any discharge yet she hasnt gone off her food or been sick im hopeing to god shes in whelp but does sound like your girl is! :) all the best!

To be honest Whitelilly its the weeing bit which has made me unsure, otherwise I would be thinking either pregnancy or phantom signs (knowing they can be exactly the same).  As you say I will check with the vet tommorow and see what she says.   Is this your girl's first litter?  2 weeks is early to see signs so would you be expecting to see something with your girl by now normally?

my girl had discharge 10 days post mating and was in whelp.  The time before when I mated her she had every symptom and really slowed down etc very early all the things she did with her first litter but the one thing I didnt see in the phantom was discharge.
My girl both pregnancies wee'd small amounts but often almost as if she were scent marking.

Thanks lleonder.  Yes that's what my girl is like, its more like she is scent marking. Was your girl's discharge hanging in strings at 10 days?  My girl doesnt have strings, just a blob of it when I check her am and pm at the moment.

she just had a blob showing no string.  It did come away a bit when she peed.

My girl had this at 11 days and i was very worried so i took her to the vet who said it was an infection and gave her antibiotics
I posted on here titled "white discharge" and i had some reassuring replies
I had her scanned at 30 days and it confirmed at least 5 puppies
It was also like string and she still has a small amount now so i would take it that your girl is probably pregnant but would have her checked by the vet just in case
GOOD LUCK

Well I've spoken to the vet (who is a breeder herself), she has said nothing to worry about unless it changes colour or becomes smelly.

There's been no discharge since I posted yesterday morning so obviously everything ok :-).

Just thought I would post an update for anyone reading this for info in future.  My girl's discharge changed from white to clear and has continued in varying amounts.  She has been scanned and confirmed in whelp with a minimum of 6 puppies.  Puppies due in a couple of weeks :-)
