I am posting for a friend whose Cocker Spaniel girl has just been diagnosed with this condition. I am trying to help her find out as much about it as possible as her beautiful girl starts treatment on Friday.
She has had one flare up to date which involved fever, widespread lesions, lameness and a infected vulva. This was very recently.
Drugs and treatment to date have alleviated those initial symptoms but she is starting again we think with another flare up.
Reading off the net, it looks like an awful condition.
Can anyone offer any experiences for my friend and her sweet girl?
TIA
I had a bitch who suffered for about 6 years.
Her face was always scabby and her legs and feet got bad when she had a flare up. But with a low dose of steroids every day she lived to be 14 and was put to sleep because of a severe stroke, absolutely nothing to do with the pemphigus.
I found that paddling in the sea helped.
I don't have any personal experience of this condition but have read some interesting info on the CIMDA site.
Google CIMDA, very lovely helpful people x
Thanks for the responses I've passed them on to my friend
My human baby had pemphigus neo-natorum as a newborn and I have to say was very ill, we had to cover each lesion with gentian violets , everything was purple it was a very stressful time indeed but she is now 27 with a baby of her own, probably similar strain but different in dogs? ,
