My 15 month old pug puppy died suddenly
The vet said he needed the op to help with
His breathing op was going well then his
Heart slowed down and stopped I don't understand
Why my vet can't give me any answers
Wondered if any one else could

I have no answers but just to say I am so sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss
Did he have blood work up pre op to rule out any problems? Does his breed have a history of heart problems? Have you informed his breeder so owners of his litter mates are made aware.
Was this surgery being performed by a specialist in dogs with respiratory problems? The vet should be willing to discuss what the possible causes were or it looks like he is covering something up, are they doing a PM?
Hi no pm done I have tried to contact the breeder
But no joy He is an experienced vet in the
Surgery he was doing or so he said but no bloods
Done or scans to check his heart Should I of asked
To have them done ???
I feel guilty about the surgery I did speak
To the vet he said if I had left the surgery
Frankie would not of survived the summer
Is this a cover up I don't know feels like
It today When I asked for a reason and maybe
A pm his reply was if u to crack open his chest
Of course I said no at that time

You wouldn't normally need them in a young healthy dog, please don't beat yourself up about this, it sounds like just a terrible accident. Sometimes, thankfully not often, but sometimes dogs do die under anaesthetic, that's why we sign the disclaimer beforehand.
How awful for you, a terrible shock.
As others say, no anesthetic is risk free, that is why many of us would only have one where absolutely necessary. You were advised that it was absolutely necessary and, how could you have done anything other than take that advice. Please do not beat yourself up about it.
The only thing that concerns me is the way the vet spoke to you. If he used the phrase 'we could crack open his chest' I feel that is disgraceful insensitivity and cannot help but wonder if he wanted you to back off. Others may feel differently but standing back from the situation his use of those words in that set of circumstances feels wrong, inappropriate and makes me wonder if he simply has awful people skills or if there are other reasons.

I second freelanceruk. I have lost a toy breed under anaesthetic years ago, so am aware that it is a risk we take. However, I would have expected more sensitivity. Bad call.
