Well im just looking through a few schedules for shows for Saskia in the next few months. I am entering her at a show in Newark (Lincoln way) which is a long drive from my house Midlands. I have enterd her in a junior class for her breed buit to be honest thats all there is aprt form AV working. Do you think I should enter her in this aswell, as it seem a long way to travel just for 1 class. They have variety calsses although I am not sure what these are. Are these the same as Novilty classes, prettiest bitch etc. They also have stakes classes what are these are they the same as variety classes. I could enter her in av open stakes, but I do not want to enter her in a class before I now what I am letting myself in for :P

Also are CC's awarded at open shows or just champ shows

Newark is a good place to show at although it can be noisy as the buildings are a bit like small hangars. They also have warm air blowers so be aware of these before you get there as I would hate Saskia to get scared. Be warned it is also very cold there :D all that aside, I will try to answer your questions. Stakes classes usually have a money or some other prize for the winners. Variety classes tend to be for those breeds that don't have their own breed classes on. Nothing like the novelty classes and such at an exemption show, this is the real thing now :) There should be definitions of the classes in the back of the show schedule.
Challenge Certificates can only be won at Championship Shows, not Open shows. HTH

Which show is it at Newark?
In her breed is there only a Junior class as you could enter her in post grad or open for experience. The only problem with that is if you win Junior but then don't win the other classes you cannot go for BOB. But then if a dog beats you in post grad or open chances are he would have beat you in BOB anyway :-) Confusing ehh....

When I lived in the Midlands I entered a show at Newark. I only went to the one show because I thought it was too far (it took me over an hour and a half to get there). I used to do a lot of open shows at Ryton on Dunsmore in Coventry or the Stafford Show ground and found them much better, being closer (not so tiring!). Have a look in the dog press and see what shows at these venues (there are quite a few!) have classes you'd like to enter and most of all, enjoy it!

As you're just starting out, I'd say it's a good idea to enter one breed class and one AV Working class, assuming it's not the same judge for both - and if you have breed classes, it must be 'AV' not 'AVNSC'. This will give you two different opinions. I wouldn't go for more than the two classes though, as that will give you enough to keep your eye on for your first proper show, as there will be lots of rings on the go, and your two classes may not be that close to each other.

AV classes are not novelty classes like at exemption shows, but are either for breeds which do not have separate classes at the show (AV Not Separately Classified or 'AVNSC'), or for a particular group (i.e. AV Working separated into Puppy, Junior, etc.)

I will sometimes enter an AV class if I would like that particular judge's opinion - and sometimes am more interested in this than in the breed judge if they're not a Rough Collie specialist!

The judge at Newark for the AV working and Pastoral is Mr K R Newgouse (Annecy) :) :) :)

He's a Samoyed judge then, if memory serves me correctly - I'd go for your Junior breed class and one AV Working class.
