Got an emergency vets appt this morning for my 11 1/2 yr old springer, I very worried. She won't stay stood up and looks hunched slightly with her tail tucked in. Didn't bark for her dinner last night or this morning which she normally does inscently. Didn't want to go walking yesterday and for a few days has looked totally worn out when out on her walks
Don't think she's eaten anything except a bit of a plastic dog toy but to be honest she eats things like tea towels without any effects, has done all her life!
She's on rimadyl 1.5 per day and tramodol 4 per day for arthritis, hope these aren't causing horrid affects for her. She has been on them for 3 months and previous to that preveclox. Her leg seems to be causing her more pain today and her back legs wobbly.
Hope it not anything nasty.

hope you get on ok. sounds like your dog is in severe pain. it were me i would have called the vet out asap. i would not wait till morning. let us know how you get on.
Well last night and yest I couldn't really put my finger on anything as she was still eating as she did this morning, she has wee'd ok. Drinking ok. It was really this morning that she definitely not right so I have emergency appt.
My husband has just taken her for a little walk to see if she will poo and how she is but he back already as she wouldn't move had a wee and that was it (still keen to lick the cat food bowl on way out though). Back in and walking round kitchen slow but a bit snarly with our other dogs when they get too close.
Vet thinks its her back and has given cortisone injection which should take affect quite quickly, he also heard a heart murmur which is new and thought she looked pale in her eyes though gums nice and pink.
Taking her back on weds and he might do bloods to check for anaemia as heart murmurs can be part of it.
Paws crossed she feels better later on after the injection takes affect.
back at vets as emergence this morning, she could barely walk and had the shaky/tremors in body when she was lying down. also to move her was painful and she cried she has not done this before.
she had another cortisone injection on Wednesday and rymadyl changed to PLT which is a steroid based painkiller and was doing ok. she was able to move around all ok and even went on short walk, wagging her tail and back to having a bark at dinner time! not sure whats happened this morning to her but apart from this she is eating normally and all bodily functions normal.
she having bloods and xray today and am waiting hear what it is. they did mention a tumour but said more likely the arthritis. cant see it being a tumour as she is all OK with eating drinking and pooping and weeing.
spoke to vet and she said Tilly was just very constipated! mainly horse poo which does eat a lot of when we are out but she hasn't been out since last Sunday and has been to poopy everyday. would constipation really cause immobility, pain, stop her from getting up on furniture or getting up at all??
vet didn't mention this is a possibility on Monday or Wednesday when I went.
never had this with a dog before and seems extreme symptoms for constipation, she's raw fed on natural instinct. Her hips and back looked good on xray.
anyone had this with a dog??
Even though off topic to the OP's problem as the subject of eating horse poo has been mentioned owners of breeds vunerable to Ivemectin poisoning should be aware eating it can be deadly to their dog if the horse has recently been treated with a wormer containing Ivermectin.
We home after an episode of her getting very cold on the waiting room floor when I went to get her the first time. She had to stay another few hours as completely went off, I thought she had died there and then and so did the vet who was panicking. She was cold and I think hypoglycaemic which doesn't help with keeping you warm. She seemed to shut down for a while.
She very sedated and can't walk without a sling under her back end, hoping she gets up tomorrow now she is clear of obstruction.
We live in the new forest and she has eaten pony poo all her life, like most dogs that walk round here. Didn't know about the ivermectin but not sure the ponies get wormed that often and would have thought the vets would be aware.

Hope she feels better, its strange that constipation can do this,I have seen this happen in humans.

30hrs on from sedation and enema and my dog can't get up un aided and can not stay standing for very long because of her back end. She so wobbly and tail tucked under. She has slept all day and doesn't want to move.
She has had a poo this morning which was hard for her to go as cant stay in position and she has wee'd a few times. Thank goodness seeing my vet in the morning but hope she is much better. They said because of her age it may take a few days for to recover fully but I really was hoping to see a brighter girl this evening.
Something makes me think the constipation is secondary to the back problem (whatever that is) but vet yesterday thinks its the main problem.

Try and get her to a McTimmony chiropracter asap.
Had a Xbreed who - over 1 weekend - was shuffling about, hunched up and wobbly no interest in anything and wouldn't lift his head up far enough to look up at you, He looked and acted like an old man who had lost his zimmer frame !
Got him in vets Mon AM but saw a useless locum :-( who said he had an slightly enlarged prostate (he was 11 yrs old and entire) gave him 2 lots of tabs and appointment for x ray.
-Before I started any tabs, I took him to my chiro on Tues, he had 2 bits on his back put straight, he gave a BIG sigh of relief when he realised 'it stopped hurting' bounced out of the room and jumped into the car like a 2 yr old :-D :-D
The tabs went back - unopened - for a refund!

I've nothing to add but healing thoughts for your poor girl. Hope you get to the bottom of whatever is bothering her.
Might find a chiro for dogs locally then and see what they say.
Saw my normal vet this morning who agreed with me that the constipation is secondary to a spinal problem, could be small tumour on bone or a disc problem which wouldn't be seen on X-ray.
I have to make decisions now as whether to go for MRI scan then decide on surgery if found to be a disc problem or jay hold fire and see if she I proves over the few weeks as it could heal itself.
MRI about £1000 then surgery could be £2000, money not the problem but putting her through it is, plus she also has a heart murmur and long standing arthritis in her elbows. She will be 12 in April. I just don't want to start down a route that in the end will be worse for her at her age.
Today she is getting up on her own but drags back feet when she walks, they tuck under and she takes a a minute to put them right. This is worse today than last Monday. She hasn't poo'd today but has wee'd and not Incontinent. Eating like her normal self. Just looks miserable and lays down all the time.
Vet said she needs to rest but encourage some movement so she doesn't seize up. He is going to check the X-rays from the weekend tomorrow as not at that branch today. I trust him and he tells you as it is, doesn't come across as a money grabbing vet.
