Topic Other Boards / Foo / Telephone changes?

Since moving to Norfolk 3 weeks ago my telephone no longer shows the telephone number of who's calling me (caller recognition) and all it says is CALL. I like to know who's calling before I pick up and can't work out why it's no longer doing it. Also the 1571 is constantly bleeping even though there are no new messages. Any ideas?

Presumably you have had to change number etc? Our phone is capable of showing who calls but it doesn't, because apparently you have to activate the service with BT first and we've never bothered.

Yes, I have had to change the number as it's a totally different area. I best get in touch with BT then if it's something that needs activating. Thanks Marianne.

I think caller id costs me about £1 per month with virgin but you do need to register.

Yes you have to pay for caller display, think I got a free trial and then signed up for the 3 monthly fee.

Well I think I've done it online at no charge (comes as part of the package I'm on, just had to tick the relevant box)!

If you tell BT you are receiving nuisance calls then caller id is free ;-)

I was receiving the most awful nuisance calls, which were sometimes 12 calls or more a night.  All the way through the night until the morning came.  And I had to go to work the next day!

BT did not help - although they did say that I could change my number.

For which they charged me.  I had to pay up because I was becoming ill through lack of sleep.

Caller display has to be activated. When we activated it you had to phone BT but think you can do it online now.I don't think we pay any extra for it but it may be part of the package we are on.

I think 1571 has to be activated also cos we set it up in the days when we had dial up broadband and the phoneline was often engaged. I know my folks have never had it (and don't want it) so it isn't automatic.

It is only when you move house that you realise all these things we previously had set up and took for granted. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

I went and looked myself and did the same thing. :) BT Security, free of charge, gives you caller ID display.
