Just wondering how long dogs stay on the KC mate select for. Looking at my breed dogs are found that I know died several years ago. Or do they stay there for ever?

They should stay there forever as its creating the COI and hopefully in time will be almost there when they allow imported dogs and their pedigrees onto it, currently you add an import and it doesn't calculate it correctly.

Well it does but only for the number of generations they have data on, so for the offspring of an import they may only have 4 full generations.

This is why for example our breed the average COI seems artificially low, because we have quite a few first and second generations import bred, but once we put their offspring together up go the COI's.

For example my youngest two shwo COI's of 0.5% and 0.9% but I know the imports/overseas dogs I used have numerous common ancestors going back to the 60's.

Are they going to remedy that? We have more and more imports than ever before, so it won't change unless they do. Makes a mockery of it in real terms.

Certainly for Malinois the COI given is ridiculous (1.3 % now!! It was ridiculous last year already at 2. something) with the reality being at least 5 times higher and in many cases over 10 times higher.

I don't see they can do an awful lot about it though, as they will only have the 5 generations or so of imported dogs and cannot go further back. But as it is now, this can damage breeds if Joe Public thinks a dog with a higher COI than 1.3 should be avoided! Hard enough to sell pups as it is!

Also in my rare breed it is not showing the true coi as some are showing 0 but they can't be.

because unless the imported dogs actual pedigree had repeated animals in the three to 5 generations the kennel club have records for it won't.

Most of my dogs mate select COI result, on the right it will say something along the lines the data used to calculate this is based on up to 16, 17 or 18 generations, but the first 4, 5 or whatever are complete.

Most of our dogs have imports in their pedigrees every couple of generations, even every other generation, with numbers bred so low at present.
