My girl is now on day 55 and has started digging in the garden im hoping this isnt a sign of labour.
She is enormous, when we had her scanned Keith saw 5 puppies but i think there could be a few more
Please tell me this is usual and not labour
Thanks
I'm sorry to have to tell you but I think your girl is telling you that she'd much prefer to be preparing her whelping place in a nice hole in your garden than in the, no doubt, very comfortable whelping area you've prepared for her in your home :-D
One of my breeder friend's girls dug such a big whelping den underneath her greenhouse, the greenhouse collapsed!
Normal ;-)

One of my mentors' bitches dug under a shed and they could only get her out by dismantling it.

My parents have massive holes in their back garden where my girls have dug in the past LOL!. I've used Keith twice now and each time I have had one less pup than seen on the scan, so he's usually very good regarding numbers. Well I have used him twice with one of my other girls and he's been right with the no pups too.
My girl has started digging this morning, same spot as she did last time, I hate it as she won't come in when called and now needs supervising at each toilet trip!

We are on day 60 now.Last night she was tearing paper in whelping box and was very restless wanting to go out in the garden,i took her on her lead but she just wanted to eat grass/plants.
Finally settled about 2.30 am when she fell asleep but was very fidgety during sleep. She has just woke up and eaten some Chicken and rice and starting to settle down again.

Looks like tonight will be the night then hopefully! I have to admit that one of my girls would only whelp outside and I had to let her. Wasn't fun in October once when she decided to have them outside at 2.00 am but thankfully we had an empty shed so got lots of hot water bottles and towels and took her in the house once she'd had all of her pups. I just knew that I would have problems if I made her have them in the house as she would just stop and go crying to get out.

Tillie had pups by C Section yesterday am.She had 5 girls and 3 boys unfortunately 1 boy had a cleft palette and was pts by the vet.The vet nurse gave Tillie a pup just has she came out of anaesethic and she killed him poor mite.At the moment we are putting Tillie in to feed with a muzzle on but she seems to becoming more maternal i am very nervous about removing the muzzle incase she turns on them.Must go they want feeding again i will be back later to finish post

Sorry to hear about the ones you lost, how are things going today?
ismum coming round to having the pups yet?? hope allis going wellx

Sorry for the losses may they RIP
What was the nurse doing allowing a dam to kill a pup, they need very close and careful supervision post c/section and it is not a mistake I would expect from a professional, it is bad enough when it happens due to an ignorant breeder not realising their responsibilities.
Some breeds are not very good dams and being presented post c/section with several wriggly things going near where she is sore only compounds the problem.
I hope she settles soon or you will have several busy weeks ahead shuffling pups in and out with Mum every couple of hours.

When the vet took Tillie in for C section i asked him did he let pups to mum when she came round from anaesethic he said no not straight away i said good because i heard the Dam could be confused and attack pups, but obviously he forgot to tell his nurse this.I try not to think about it much cos it upsets me and theres nothing i can do about it now, im gutted.Tillie is now being a good mum we took the muzzle of a few days ago.The only prob being she is a clumsy oath and keeps standing and sitting on pups so im with them 24/7.Im shattered !
Shes still digging and panting hope this stops soon.Anyway gotta go.Thanks for the replies
