Topic Dog Boards / General / Dogs World v Our Dogs

I only want to buy one paper but which one should i choose? I have already read Our Dogs but i would like to read Dogs World as well to make my decision but i can't seem to buy one copy anywhere. I know some people buy both but if you had to choose one which would it be and why. if you don't mind me asking.

Depends on your reasons for buying it. Dog World has better articles than Our Dogs. Our Dogs prints show reports exactly how judges have submitted them but Dog World edits them, sometimes changing the meaning.

Also might be worth looking into Breed Notes which has them more frequently, which writer's style you prefer.

I'd say if you're serious about being in dogs, you need both. By just taking one you will always miss something. Show reports for instance as it's far from uncommon for your dog's report to appear in just one of the papers.

Both Our Dogs and Dog World have Breed Notes sections. These are just newsy bits written by each papers' regular columnists, usually one for each breed. Some columnists are more diligent than others and get something in every week. Some columnists are lovely and try really hard. Others are people you would give a wide berth to if you saw them in person! But you only discover this when showing regularly.

Actually those with breeds that also work quite often give updates on working events too.

I used to get our dogs, i liked the breed note writer. she left, and i didnt like the new once so switched to dog world and prefer that now, news is more, better ect.

I used to get Our Dogs and a lady that used to go to training Club got Dog world, we used to swop papers each week. But then she stopped going and the arrangement stopped, but it was good while it lasted as saved us both paying for two subscriptions.
I think the internet subscriptions to view online are cheaper. I don't get any now, but still manage to find out what I need to know via Face Book and Forums.

That's what's so good about OD. They let you write what you want. I do the Malinois and Laekenois breed notes for them, have done for quite a few years now, and I put anything in to do with the breeds. If I've spotted any in a film or TV programme, anything in the news, show news of course, any kind of working news, dogs dying, dogs in rescue needing homes, you name it, absolutely ANYTHING breed related is fine and appreciated. DW on the other hand seem to just list main winners at champshows and in fact are not even allowed to mention mere open show winners. BUT like I said earlier, there's been many times I've found a show report in ONE paper only so to play safe you do need both if you are showing.

I personally prefer our dogs, prefer the writing and topics chosen but i do get both.  OD in paper format but DW via the app.  I use my ipad a lot and OD doesnt work very well.
If you have a device you can use apps on then look for dog world as it gives you a fair few recent/new editions before eventually asking you to subscribe, that way you can run the two side by side for a while and decide.

I subscribe to the digital version of Dog World and download the paper as pdf which I then transfer to the iPad and read through the Kindle app. It's cheaper doing it that way than subscribing to the Dog World app.
