Our 7 month old Rhodesain Ridgeback has itchy ears, what the best solution.

Many thanks in advance.

"what the best solution"
Firstly to find the reason why his ears are itchy. Are they dirty or infected with ear mites, is it a contact allergy or a reaction to something in his food? There can be many reasons for the cause and if it not obvious to you then definitely take your puppy to your Vet.

Ok, further to this ear itching, I took our girl Kito to see the vet this morning. The vet looked in the ears, no mites, and he couldn't really give me an answer why or what cause her to itch.

So then he gave me some antibiotic's, steroids and ear wash at a cost of £105.00! And have to return in 10 days time. Now aim not a pill popping person myself and am not that happy with giving Kito drugs either...I have not started the treatment and am going to get a second opinion as not comfortable with this at all.

Can anyone hear please give me some advise?

BTW..I took Kito out for a long walk in the woods this afternoon and she has come back happy and is not itching her ears but will keep an eye on her tonite.

Do her ears smell at all? Like a cheesy whiff?

Is there a particular time each day that Kito is scratching at her ears? I'm thinking that if this is happening after her meals she might be having a reaction to something in her food. In more serious reactions tiny red bumps might be seen on the insides of the ear flap during the height of the irritation. As she of a breed with a fairly short fine coat she might be more prone to this.
