Hi,

I have a friend looking for a Bichon Frise puppy i have looked on the KC and breed club websites and there are no mention of health screening tests are there any they should be doing even if they aren't any listed.

Slipping Patellas should certainly be considered in most small breeds. they do have patella evaluation schemes in other countries so can't understand why we don't in UK have anything official.

Would always expect that a breeder would have the eyes checked at the very least - ask the breed clubs as they often have requirements that the KC do not suggest. Mind you there are still some breeds that do not acknowledge that their breed needs health checks so it could be that your friend will have to checkout as many of the ancestors as they can looking for things like slipping patella , eye problems, skin problems, liver shunts, cleft pallet, fitting etc.
