I would give him a couple of weeks by which time he may very well be back on his feet and walking, albeit not too straight. There is nothing that a vet can give which will help. It is only time and usually they straighten up and get their balance back within days. I have had at least 6 Goldens who have had strokes and all but one recovered well from the first stroke although sometimes went on to have another at a later date. Tell your friend not to lose hope. Fitting him with a harness made for this purpose could help as she can help him up when he falls over and assist him to walk straight without falling. I think the one I bought was a Ruffwear Webmaster product.

I have never had this problem so can't give advice, however, going down the harness route. I have an elderly dog who has had cruciate surgery and isn't as spritely coming up the stairs so I have a walk'r'cise harness which I find I can help her get up easily and give her a bit of a lift climbing the stairs. If you have a dog that is struggling to get up or walk without help I find that the top part of the harness can be used like a handle to help the dog, also very easy to fit with snap fittings.

Thankyou, both of you,I saw him last night and he did seem a bit dazed, but managing to potter round,if a bit wobbly, and today ive been told hes gone for a short walk, and managed to lift a leg to wee,so fingers crossed! The harness is an excellent idea, thankyou!
