Well me and Saskia have our first show tomorrow then another on sunday phew................ :)
Its only a exemption show but I guess it will good practice for her.......
Any one got any tips for the day to run smoothly?
Last night at ringcraft was the first ever time I have let her stand freely as all other times I have supported her under her belly so she did not sit down, she stood fine although she did keep turning on the spot, also when the judge looks at her teeth she is fine but when he starts to run his hands over her she starts to sit down, so Im not sure if I should let her stand on her own and run the risk of her sitting down when the hudge looks at her or, kneel down at the side of her to prop her up a little ...........
Any suggestions,
Heidi

The best piece of advice I can give you is to RELAX ...watch what others do and follow their lead ....lastly ...listen to the Judge , they are generally very good , especially if they are aware you are a beginner :)
RELAX ..and
GOOD LUCK We expect a post as SOON as you get home :D

Heidi as Mel has already said just relax and enjoy your day !!
Just make sure that Saskia is always on the side of the Judge, watch the Judge and stack her accordingly when he is looking at you :D :D
If you know she is going to sit down then hold her before she can sit down.
ENJOY IT !!!
And let us know how you get on.

Mel
Thanks I will try my best :D
Dessie
I am really lucky as huskies are free standing and they are not suppose to be stacked phew :) thats one less thing to woory about, there legs stand in the square postion naturally so I dont have to place them.......
Any ideas what I should wear?............
I am entering prettiest 6 legs, hee hee.....best get some make up on :D :D :D :D

Heidi ..wear something smart casual ..and nothing that the dog hides against (dont wear black with a black dog etc) ...comfy shoes .....sweater or jacket that can easily be taken off if you get too warm ...
Love
Mel :)

Hi Dogs
you'll probably find that most people at the show tomorrow are 'Joe Public' who are there with their pets and haven't got the slightest idea about showing. Many of them won't even try to stand their dogs but will just try to do as the judge asks having never attended ring craft in their lives.
Just relax and enjoy.I find exemption shows much more about a good fun day out than about showing your dog.
Don't expect a proffessional judgement of your dog either-the judge can be anybody. The last one I went to the judge was a well known TV personality .In the Best condition class his winner was a Collie who had obviously not seen a brush for a VERY long time and was exceedingly obese!!!So have fun and don't take it seriously.
Good luck Archer

Hi Heidi
As Mel has said something comfy that doesn't clash with Saskia's colouring. I personally wear a slate bluey/grey suit with a bright turquoise top underneath and nice comfy flat shoes !!!
Best of luck

Hi Heidi
I'm really sorry to post this and I don't want to put a downer on your day, but do you really think you should still be going to the show?
On Dizzy's thread you say your dogs have reccently been poorly and off their food etc, one was sick this morning (although I know dogs can just be sick for a number of reasons). But do you really think it's the right thing to do? Take yours who could be carrying something, into a place that's full of dogs so they can carry it home, to possibly their owners new puppy? A little one who might not be able to fight off what ever it is? Or and older one?
Sorry but I wouldn't be wondering what to wear but considering my responsibilities to other dog owners.

I'm with you Anita - Heidi has said several times that it's only an exemption show and there are plenty of those throughtout the year.
Sorry Heidi, but I think you're being very, very irresponsible even considering taking Saskia to a show when your dogs have been so poorly and so recently.
:(

I've already posted on the other thread advising Heidi not to go. A pity but there are other shows, plus more chance of her picking up anything going around if she's poorly already

hi Heidi, just caught up with this thread, I have to agree with others here, It is only an exemption show, and there are plenty on, I know you were really excited about entering, but it is only fair to other people not to spread any germs around:( sorry I know its a downer, but it is better to be on the safeside, and people do take young pups to these fun events , it really wouldnt be right to risk it. There are always loads of exemption shows throughout the year, usually at local fetes etc. Julie:)

I have to echo what the others have said following up on another thread where you say that Saskia has been sick !!! With all these terrible bugs that are going around at the moment could you bare to think that Saskia could pass on her bug to another dog !!!
There will be plenty more Shows Heidi its not like you live in The Channel Islands and only have a few shows a year !!!
SORRY !!!

Have you been to any Open shows & watched the other exhibitors ? Try to pick one that is local to you & has your breed classified, so that you can see how the "professionals"do it. Try contacting your Breed Club for show dates, visit them & talk to the people around the ringside.
The most important thing to do is to enjoy yourself !!

Saskia was not the one who was sick :)
It doesn't matter whether she was sick or not, she has been in contact with the ones that were!!!!!

They are seprated, Saskia and Zeus are house dogs :)
Two years ago I watched someones litter of puppies all die at 2 weeks.
Someone just like you had taken their dog to a show and said the same thing as you, they are kept separately to the other dogs at home who have kennel cough!!!!!
Guess what the pups died of!!!!!!
By DOGS

Well they have not got KC. They ARE kept seperated.

Oh Heidi :-(
Anne

Dogs, Lady Dazzle was just using Kennel Cough as an example, not a specific.
I'm very impressed that you keep your dogs separate from each other. How large is the isolation distance between their living quarters? And of course, with sick dogs being kept isolated, you'll have to change all your clothes, including footwear, whenever you go between the two groups of dogs.
If you can, hand on heart, say that you take these precautions, you just
might not pass on infection to other people's dogs.

i cant belive you took your dogs to a show, knowing some of them where ill-would you feel proud of yourself thinking you could be the cause of a puppy like gizzy lying so near to death--its so not on, --you promise to abide by the kc rules when you show dogs-which are if theres ANY INFECTION on your premises, with your dogs, you wont go to a show for at least4 weeks from it clearing,
i hope if youve passed the bug on and someones pups are now paying the price for it--that your card-prize money etc, where all worth it :(
before you bother to say it was an exemption show-----that doesnt make it ok, -a dead or ill puppy really isnt worth it,
I don't like to judge people too quickly but I have to say that I feel extremely angry at the thought of you taking a dog to a show who has either been sick or knowingly anywhere near a sick dog

I have an immune deficient dog at home so I am extra careful with her and the dog I show, making sure he is always fit and healthy, has a good immune system etc. so as to reduce the chances of him passing anything on to her whilst at show but people like you make it so damn difficult. I didn't take him to a ringcraft class when he was a pup because he had been sick the day before, just incase he was carrying a bug and boy did I need to go to those ringcraft classes. I wouldn't take the risk!
I'm pleased I wasn't at the same show as you and I hope your dog didn't pass anything on to others. :-(

Firstly I would like to say, despite what you THINK you now about me, I for one are not selfish and DO care about the welfare of other peoples dogs aswell as my own

Secondly, Like I said my dogs were under the weather, they were not on deaths door step or keeling over like you think. Yes 2 of them were sick, one of them the once and the other was sick 3 times in 2 days, hardly life threatning, 3 of them were off there food for 1 day one of the three was off the food for 2 days. 2 of the dogs had the runs for two days. Now im no expert here and this may I add was all last week and the symptoms of this spell of illness had cleared 4/5 days before the show, All the dogs have been fine for the last week. Now the dog that went to the show was indoors for all of this. When I clean the runs out in the morning as soon as I have finshed I go straight upstairs and change my clothes, put slippers on etc etc then spend time with the indoor dogs so YES I do change my clothes.
Dizzy
I think you are being very unfair saying that its people like me who cause problems with Gizzy etc. That is very upsetting for me to read that
Archie the dog who came off worse he had sickness 3 times in 2 days and was off food for a day had gone to the vets BEFORE the show had the vet gave him the ok,
So now I have rexplained it better to thoses who are quick to judge you will see that I dont see how I have caused a epidemic amongst all you dog owners.

I think its called "jumping on the band wagon ;) "
Lady Dazzle
Sorry to hear of your friends pups dieing of kc, but I can not help ask my self..... if she had a liiter of small pups at home why was she at a show anyway? surely she would be looking after them instead. After all with so many of "us" selfish people I wopuld not take a dog to a show in case you were bringing all germs home etc etc
