Hi,
I am sure there are loads of posts on it somewhere but I can't find any recent ones. Please could anyone tell me the requirements to export a pup to France? Passport / jabs / age etc. The people would be driving to collect.
I have to say I am not that keen on the idea mainly due to the massive drive involved - near on 1000 miles & also if there are any issues it will be difficult for me to get the pup back? I am very proud of my litter and of course they are stunning but although I work my dogs I am not well known for it and I do not show so why would someone want to export one of my babies? They want him as a pet.
Thanks in advance.
I sent a puppy to France a couple of years ago. I had the puppy fully vaccinated ( normal puppy vaccinations ) microchipped and vaccinated against Rabies at the age of 3 months. She had to wait for 3 weeks before she could travel following the Rabies jab. She got her passport and off she went. I also did the transfer of ownership on behalf of the new owners .
I believe the requirements have not changed. Other European countries allow puppies to travel under the age of 12 weeks without all of the above although there must be an accompanying letter to say that puppy has not left mother/premises nor been in contact with wild animals.

Personally if I wasn't comfortable with where a puppy was going I wouldn't sell it to that home. Have these people come through a recommendation or just contacted you themselves?

They have literally just contacted me direct. I think they found my website where I have details of 1 pup.
I am not comfortable with it at all to be honest and have told them so - I would expect this type of enquiry to have been in contact far before pups were 8 weeks old as it is a massive thing. I have heard that my breed are difficult to get hold of outside the UK and their country of orgin.

To be sending a pup abroad I would want to have built up some sort of rapport with the prospective buyers in the months before the pups arrived not sudden contact when the pups are ready for the off.
If they only want a pet have you endorsed the pup so they can't register it in their own country and change their minds?
If I had the slightest misgivings I wouldn't do it and hold out for something nearer to home.

> built up some sort of rapport
My thoughts exactly. We had sort of already decided to keep him until after Xmas and rehome as a slightly older pup.

I homed a pup last year to France. Pup needs full vaccinations, a rabies jab at 3 months and can then travel 21 days after.
Obviously a microchip and passport too.
There is no legal way to get them in the country earlier (I even spoke to the head of the ministry of agriculture when I was trying to get my head around it at first!)
My buyers were an English family living in France, they had been in touch since before the pups were born. I don't think I would consider it if they contacted me when he was older.
As it turns out, they are a fabulous family who send me regular updates/photos/videos etc and I could not wish for a better home for him.
With regards to the travelling (they drove from Derbyshire home to Paris with him) I made sure he had a good play and meal first and he travelled in the boot area with a chew and 3/4 toilet breaks and was absolutely fine (and this is a very active breed!!!)

France is ridiculously hardcore about this. Other EU countries let pups in at 8wks.
