hi was if youve read my last post about our little girly mating on day 7 im now sure she was just being a tart??? as she was then mated 2days later and was so excited to get there she pulled to get out the car which isnt like her at all....well yesterday she kep coming to me winning plus storm was still winning we couldnt make it to hers thur or yesterday but again this morning she was winning i spoke with the stud owner and we took her again just to see what was going to happen ..well she know where we was and even before she was out the car she started flaging iv never seen this before!!?? she was going mad for him within 5 mins of her flirting and playing thay were tired again a long tie too so now realy not sure what to do reagarding times!?? as tomorrow would be sunday ..we took her last sunday and she mated i asked her re her boy mateing if not ready she said hes not mated till they are ready so now what do i do help!!!! im not sure what to think now!! x

Perfectly normal for a bitch to stand for about a week. 

They will often mate (especially if tarty) at or just before ovulation, so that is 2 or 3 days before eggs are ripe for fertilisation, and then the eggs stay viable for up to another 4 days (as ovulation takes around 24 - 48 hours and the eggs stay viable for about another two days).

Of course she may just be having a completely untypical season, or her behaviour be out of sync with her hormones, without having done progesterone testing, only time will now tell.

My bitch was mated 3 times over 7 days, she still whelped day 60 from 1st mating

I've heard it said that a long tie means the bitch is going over, so if you caught her last weekend, then mid-week, then had a long tie this weekend, sounds like you've covered all the bases, fingers crossed now!

I have often found this too, the last mating a long and often more uncomfortabel tie.

I have had a bitch tie twice for 45 mins with a 48hr gap between, so don't think her long ties had anything to do with her "going over".

What is classed as a long tie, not witnessed one that lasted less than 25 mins?

I think long would be in relation to previous ones with the same dog, in same season.

I have had 5-10 minute ties and 45 minute ties (average 15 - 20 minutes).  The longer ones tend to be the last mating, adn 30 minutes plus.

How interesting! I haven't heard this before. My bitch had a 12 minute tie on Friday (day 11) and a 31 minute tie yesterday (day 13)

Time will tell - but I'm crossing everything

I'm no expert, but the ties I have witnessed have mostly been 10 - 20 minutes. I would say anything over 35-40 minutes is long?

My lad has never had a tie of less than 25 minutes and it does play havoc with my knees and back lol

This is one reasdon I like prog testing as it will pin point when to expect the pups to arrive if bitch is willing to make over a long period... Worth the cost just for that knowledge for me...

thats true Noora ive pro tested a girl before but only because she didnt take season before ...its going to be interesting to see what the scanner says re times im going to scan her day 32 from 1st mateing this will take it to 1st week ...3rd jan so if she took from the tie on the 2nd dec we will see very well or do u think it might be to late to see numbers if been told to get a rough number we dont want just 1 pup!! so im hopeing for 4 lol

It is only on palpation that it becomes too late to count pups, an expert scanner should be able to count pups no problem unfortunately at the vets they are reluctant to give you figures because there is no guarantee that some pups may die and be absorbed in the remaining weeks.

I don't know how I would cope if I had a window of over a week the bitch could have the pups!
Helps in keeping me calmer :) and I work straight up to due date (OH is at home and I can come if needed and he does help with the whelp so has some idea) so helps in pin pointing when I will need to be off from work onwards too without wasting loads of time sitting at home waiting...

So far my girls have delivered exactly the day I would have expected from prog results but then only had matings 2 days on a row so would have been easier to guess anyways but  could have still given quite a few days window if I did not know when the eggs were ripe :)...

My last scan was at 34 days(as the scanner lady could not do earlier due to other commitments) and it was amazing to see the difference to being scanned earlier! Opposed to blobs, they were little pups in there and could see their little legs kicking about etc.
Numbers too were spot on...
I was pretty sure by then she was expecting but wanted to see there is a decent number in there (and not 1 or 2 or false pregnancy).

You can of course have a progesterone test to show when delivery should occur.

yes i could but that means vets very close i hate taking them inless its very ness too many germs :(

Good grief. Where would the dog world have been in the days before progesterone testing?!!!!!
