I give my puppy chicken as treats when training and I want to vary it sometimes to keep her focused. Cheese doesn't seem to be her thing so I've got some liver today and cooked it and wondered if any of you had any other ideas.
Hot dog sausages, garlic sausage, or just plain old cooked sausages cut up into small peices. Sardine cake made the same way as liver cake also goes down well.
Sardine/liver cake that sounds good how do I make it, she's going to be better feb than the other half at this rate lol

For either liver or sardine cake.. make the liver or sardine into a thick paste using an egg and some flour - chuck in some garlic too. The proportions don't matter toooo much, its roughly the same amount of flour as fish/liver and then enough egg to make it runny and bind it together.
Just make sure its quite dense but still soft when done as a softer treat is easier to break into bits and quicker for the dog to eat.
Yes you can bake it in the oven or the microwave. You can add garlic and or herbs if you wish as well.

I remember reading a training article by Karen Pryor many moons ago where she said ' become the GODDESS of good things to your dog' ~ My present Husky is not in the slightest food motivated ( unless theft is involved then he positively delights *rolls eyes*)
So for him I found that Goddess status was achieved by using THE stinkiest foods! So I'm with Dorcas... Garlic sausage, sardine cake and additionally I found that Garlic added to anything got his interest peeked.
I have a separate coat now for training only... And it has to be regularly decontaminated!! ;-)

Liver Brownies
A great recall treat.
1kg liver (lamb, chicken - doesn't matter!)
500g plain flour
3 eggs
good splash of milk
lots of crushed garlic cloves
Liquidise the liver, eggs, garlic and milk in a food processor, then add it to the bowl of flour. Mix really well and pour/spread into a well oiled roasting tin. Cook at about 175 for about 35-45 mins, usual cake test to see if its done. Cut up into small pieces, divide and freeze in freezer bags - makes 8-10 bags.

Tuna or Sardine Brownies
These make a great recall treat.
2 cans tuna or sardines in water (don't drain)
2 eggs
1 cup whole wheat flour (up to 1 1/2 cup)
lots of crushed garlic cloves
Pulse the tuna and water in food processor, and add eggs until it is pretty soupy. If it looks thick, add some olive oil. Pour into bowl, add the garlic and add the flour slowly. Mix with a spoon; it should be like really moist brownie dough. Grease a cookie sheet or pizza pan. Smooth it out on the pan. Cook at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes. Check after 15 minutes: it should be the consistency of putty. Cook longer if needed. Let cool and cut into squares with a pizza cutter. Freeze in bags.
