I had my bitch scanned recently at 4+ weeks - no puppies seen but a couple of 'blobs' were visable - scanner said they were air bubbles!  I have had my girls scanned in the past and never heard of this before!  I don't believe she is in whelp but wondered if anyone else has heard of this?

One of my girls had the same "air bubbles" on a scan which a vet completed. I was also told no puppies. After niggling doubts I had her rescanned a week later (not by the vet this time) to have a litter of 6-7 confirmed. She went on to have seven beautiful babies.......

The lady who now completes all of my girls scans mentioned that a scanner is only as good as the person who is using it. Although your girl may not be in whelp, following my experience I would certainly not totally rule it out.

Was the scan near to 4 or 5 weeks? I'm wondering if it was nearer 4 weeks and fertilisation had occurred a bit later the 'blobs' may not have been sufficiently developed to register as anything other than air bubble type blobs?

She was 4 weeks 5 days from mating - we wait and see if anything develops further...

I say this to everyone who scans, get a stethascope and start listening for teeny fast tickingheart beats...you cant really hear anything until around 7 weeks(if your good) butits worth its weight in gold ESPECIALLY when you think they may have finished whelping,a quick listen will give you your que to stick the kettle on to coo over your new brood or to get ready for your next special delivery....

Do you know, I've never thought of using the stethescope to check they've finished - duh!! I used it with both my litters to listen to heartbeats during pregnancy. :-)

Don't forget a stethoscope will not pick up a dead pup so she may not be done.
