Hi just wondering how many of you buy your pedigrees form the kennel club when you register puppy or if any of you use programs such as breeders assistant breed mate ect. Just wondering what people's opinions on these programs are. thanks

I produce my own pedigree in word, can then put more info (Hiop scores, DNA resutls) than the basic KC ones.

Have used Breeders Assistant for many years now and could not do without it. I add a photo of the right puppy/kitten on each pedigree, I keep all my buyers contact details in the programme etc. Once you've spent ages putting in all dogs it takes two seconds to generate a pedigree.

Nah, wouldn't dream of it. But then some of my pups would only come out with half a pedigree as Dad not KC registered :-)

I use word processing or spreadsheet, easy to change and add stuff, but my dogs are 'dual' registered and the KC aspect of their registration is pretty insignificant to me. So pups go with 2 versions of their pedigree ... one showing the 'important' stuff :-D and the other showing just the KC registrations behind them. Putting them into documents on my computer just makes it easier for me to customise. OK, it's a total faff when you first set out your template, but once done it's done and not that bad to amend in the future.

Oh, also it's a lot cheaper. Me reckons the KC gets far too much money already without paying good money for a bit of paper I can produce better :-D

I don't buy them when I register a litter as I feel like many people wouldn't appreciate it  / probably even look at it. I did have one lady that seemed a bit miffed that I didn't supply it....
I am going to try and do one on Excel for this litter.

I created my own, can't remember where from anymore as the last puppies I sold are 5 years old today!

We have companion xp software, although now on a linux/ubuntu computer it doesnt work. I normally like to have 5 generation certificate to go with them but takes aaaaages to imput all dogs into it.

100% agree with this.  They charge a fortune to give you a pedigree on a bit of yellowish/cream paper.  At least I do mine on a quality cream card!!  Like Barbara I have my own.  Once I made up the template, I was pleased with it.  Yes I have to type in the new bloodlines, but I don't have many litters, and they are small litters anyway.

Have done my own for some litters but started getting KC pedigrees, by time you take into account cost of quality card and ink I don't think there can be much cost benefit and an official pedigree (copy) can be needed if new owners wish to participate in some heath initiatives such as DNA storage schemes or like me,and some owners, if you wish to dual register with IKC or Eurpean Kennel Clubs for competitions.

I use a program called Kintraks, cheap, easy to use and produces lovely pedigrees, plus shows COI, does expenditure a really useful program to have.

I have used "sit stay" in the past when someone has requested a pedigree from me, pretty basic but easy to use.
