Hi Everyone,  I've lost my 2 dogs within 6 months of each other this year one 16 years of age the other 7.  I've recently decided to get a black lab puppy.  Hubby and myself cannot decided on a name for the little boy that we both like and have now
run out of ideas, although we have 6 weeks to wait until we pick him up.  So i need as many boys name as you can throw at me!!!!!

I have actually chosen a name prior to bringing a pup home.  Only to find it didn't suit him.  I had wanted a dog called Cody for years.  My long awaited pup arrived, and after 3 days I said to him, but you're not a Cody are you?  You're a Wilf. Don't know why, but he's definitely a Wilf.

I would wait and get pup home and see what suits him . The only pup I have ever named prior to getting him home is my 10 month old. His breeder asked me to choose  his registered name  along the french drink theme  We ended up with !!!!!!!!!!! Remy Martell hence his pet name Remy

I had an Uncle Wilf, he was exceptionally clumsy, its believed because his parents doping him up on Laudenum when he was a baby. If anyone breaks something in our family by accident Uncle Wilfs name is always quoted!

I called my latest boy Dexter,I saw him at 4 weeks .When I booked him,the breeder asked if I wanted to give a name for his K.C Reg,As I thought that he as a cheeky monkey I put forward the name King Louie (from Jungle book ) but didnt want Louie for his name for some reason,OH wanted to call him Vinny.
My daughter now calls him D.D. as in Dumb Dawg as he is a bit doh!!!
Which is a bit rich coming from a person that called her bitch Bella as she is a twilight fan !!!

I googled border collie names,and ended up with a shortlist of 146!

The nicest little black lab I ever met was called Wellington, Welly for short. Not a name in a million years that I would ever pick, but somehow it just suited him perfectly :-)

What about looking at your interests, seeing if there's a name you can come up with there. Relatively easy for me, my interests are mountains, so that's where our names come from. I could never call any of my dogs by 'real' names ... have taught too many horrible teenage children called well, I wont give them!! ... you'd not believe the number of common dog names that are given to children or vice versa :-O

Or even look at another language for names/words with meanings you might quite like. Once you've visited him a number of times you may well find the perfect name just suddenly leaps out at you :-)

I met a lab called dyson (and know of one called Hoover) which are just perfect! I have a (not lab) called Gunner, as he was <wait for it..> gunner be the best!!

My boys past and present are/were called: Troy, Dylan, Flash and Jesse. I tend to go with people's names as you can see and am not too fond of "proper dogs'" names... LOL  If I am stuck for names, I tend to look through children's names books to get my inspiration there.

For other animals, I use other names too... perhaps any of these of use: Benji, Tommy, Tobi (actually I like this one for a lab), Trystan, Apollo, Lancelot (Lancer for short), Magic, Merlin.

You could also look at native Indian names for example, some of which are really great.

Some labs that I have known are called Bandit, Scooby, Buster, Toffee, Guiness (I like this one for a lab too), Bruno...

We have a Black Lab Ben and the springer are Olli and Finn
