Just planning ahead and wondering what peoples methods are for litter box training a litter? What age do you start? Is it the same process as a single pup house training, if so how do you manage to keep putting the pup in the toilet area when there are lots of pups? What product work best for the base of the box eg pellets etc?

I found this link really helpful with lots of good advice:

With our last litter I got hold of 2 growbag trays and some chipped cardboard used as horse's bedding. I lined the trays with newspaper to minimise slipping. As the pups woke after a sleep I would put each pup onto the tray. I cleaned out one tray a day as once the cardboard has been used a few times the smell does attract them more (never smelly but damp cardboard sticks to the base a bit more).

I was amazed as were many of our visitors how the pups would stop play to purposefully go over to the litter trays to toilet, then continue playing. The trays also made great play things especially when just cleaned out. They would pile up and the cardboard chips would be everywhere lol. Easy enough to sweep up and put back in though so no problem.

Helped to minimise the floor mopping & altogether very satisfactory will definitely be doing it if/when we have another litter. BTW I have Golden retrievers so fairly big dogs.

Interesting link above, will have a read when I have a few minutes, thanks for posting.

I have giant breed pups just under 6 weeks old and all are pooing outside already.  The peeing is a bit harder.  I start taking them out 2 at a time just before and just after every feed around 4 1/2 weeks.  Its a lot of work but it works and all my puppy people the last time couldnt believe they were all more or less trained when they got them.  I cant imagine taking little toy breed pups out on this weather to toilet though.
