Topic Dog Boards / Health / Strange lameness?

I would love some input into this issue my little cocker has been having this week.
Over the past few nights, she has been quieter than usual, basically just lying around.  When she goes to get up to go outside or something, she has very obvious lameness in her legs.  Now, this is where it gets weird as it's not just one leg, it's any front or back(more frequently back though).  She will hold the leg up and not put any weight on it for a few metres then she will limp slightly.
I tried her anal glands just incase, but they were fine.
She's eating and drinking as normal.
She's not been out much so not injured herself walking and no-one has stepped on her toes or anything.
She has no obvious pain and I can manipulate her limbs without bother.
Only thing I would say is, she is very tense everywhere.  Abdomen, limbs, etc.  but again nothing obvious.

Today, she wanted to come out walking with the rest so I took her.  She ran about as normal on her walk, albeit not fully stretching her back legs when moving(very stiff-like).  We have been home an hour and they are all lying on vetbed in the utility to dry and when I went in with washing, she can barely move.  She is holding her front leg right off the ground and is acting very 'guarded'.  She is acting so weird that our old spaniel went for her and they had a bit of a fight which hasn't helped.
I have no idea what is going on?? I will be taking her to the vet but that's not till 5pm and I like to have some sort of idea(vet can run a bit mad with tests!)
Has anyone heard of this type of thing??
I want to say it could be her back?  Back pain? Nerves or something but I have no idea.
Anyone had something similar?

She sounds like she is in pain to me. The location may not be obvious because she is likely to 'tense' long before you get to the area of the problem. Best wait and see what the vet says, but try and get her to rest in the mean time and please let us know how you get on.

I'm thinking she has done something to her back either something is out of line, and/or pressing on nerves, thinking like Sciatica.

On the other hand while staying at my Dad's my foundation bitch had gotten into the neighbours garden and scoffed all the bread put out for the birds.  This was probably a bit mouldy and started fermenting in her belly, and we came home to a dog that wouldn't walk and was obviously in discomfort, we thought her paralysed.

Vet manipulated limbs, found there was feeling in them, ans then she wagged her tails and farted!!!  then promptly sauntered out of the consulting room when put on the floor.

I agree with brainless my first thought was has she done something to her neck or back.

I know, I think it could be her back too but then, she's not injured it or anything.  We had an Akita who put his back out and trapped a nerve and so I know what they act like but he was never bothered by his limbs, he would just hold his stomach funny(like he'd eaten too much).  So weird.
She is 2 and 1/2 yrs old so it's not a pano thing either?  Argh!! Roll on 5pm!
She's been lying sleeping since we came home and isn't wanting to move.  Being really reserved(not like her) but has eaten something.

I have been wondering how you got on at the vets - I hope your mind has been put at rest.

Hoping all's well.

My vet has done the usual.  Metacam.  He thinks it could be her back as she has total feeling in her legs and walks on all of them and no pain on manipulation.  I've to give her rest and the metacam and take her back in a week(or sooner if Metacam not working).  She seems better on the metacam but still not right.

If it's her back perhaps visiting a Mctimony Chiropractor would be helpful as opposed to the Vet simply masking the issue with pain meds.

Thanks barbara.  She's doin much better now but I will take her back for a check up.  Have no idea what she could possibly have done to herself.  I'mjust glad my vet doesn't think it's nuerological as I had all sorts of horrible diseases running through my head!  A sore back, we can deal with.
Metacam and a heat pad has done the trick today.

This.  It sounds like back pain to me, pain can refer just about anywhere with that.  My old girl Soli used to get sore wrists when her mid-lower back needed adjusting.  I have seen chiropractic help with all sorts with my dogs, not just her - most recently it's made a HUGE difference to River, whose symptoms were refusing obstacles in agility, one episode of lifting and slowly kicking out her back left leg with no trigger (as if she had something stuck to her foot), not sleeping on the bed until morning (she usually does all night), and generally being a bit 'off'.  Vet found nothing wrong.

She had treatment last week and is now back to normal, pending testing her at agility on Sunday.  Much more affectionate, moving easier, back on the bed (joy), the lot :-)
