Topic Dog Boards / Showing / a huge thank you to my mentors

It's not like we have had lots to brag about over the last year, and being as my own family could care less I'd like to share this with CD friends: yesterday at Craven Canine Association my puppy bitch Rye aged 7 months went BPIB (out 4 times so far and placed 1st or 2nd every time, with PG4 last week at Hyde). But it was her uncle Bean who stole the show yesterday. Bean won the breed Open class, then BOB and finally went BIS out of an entry of 173 dogs.

Now this time last year Bean was tap dancing his way through show after show. He wouldn't put all four feet on the ground at once and while he is a very amiable dog there was a certain quality of "whatever" every time we went in the ring. Over the last year we've had help from some fantastic handlers who between them have shown me how Bean's behaviour was entirely of my own making, corrected and encouraged me. Our small success is down to them and two fine dogs and I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Peter, Michael and Gill for persevering with me :-)

LOL thank you both :-)--it still feels unreal but can't wait for the next show to keep on trying. If I told my family that they'd put me in a locked room.

WE KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!!

LOL Jean SW, it's only safe to come out of the dog kennel on CD! My sons don't understand how anyone could be so excited about a piece of card and ribbon.

LOL Clare, because it wasn't on the group system I knew it was asking a lot of Bean to be in the ring with 30 or more dogs--he has a low boredom threshold...I thought making the first cut was a real achievement, and then when we made the second I was thinking what if???? we get RBIS???? so I nearly fell over when she gave Bean BIS. Meanwhile Rye was yodelling away the whole time in the corner and I know Bean knew who it was, so I was amazed that he kept it together!

Peter was very pleased for us, I rang him the next day :-)

Well done, was it Bean you brought to the NWGRC Michael Coed training day?
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 21.11.12 00:27 UTC
Wow, well remembered, Goldiemad! No that was Jack (Menstonia Misty Seas). He won the reserve tciket at the club champ show in September :-). Bean is my youngest dog, he's been going to Michael every fortnight for about about 6 months :-)

OMG, wow wee, well done... I remember about a year ago where you were or where you felt you were, how far have you come now?! BIS And RCC's, bloody good job!!!

The hard work is paying off :-)

He was a lovely boy. Shame we never manaed to get anything going with Michael. When you see him next can you ask him if he is still interested in a venue. :)

Goldiemad, I am not expecting to see Michael before Christmas now--we work outdoors and generally it's raining so the ground is too soft, we'd make a horrible mess of their lovely garden! But I will ask him when I see him next--we would gladly traipse over for a ringcraft class and I imagine you'd have queues coming out the door. I think he has quite a few pupils these days. Do you have a venue in mind?

and quite right, I won't be signing up for tap dancing lessons either!
