Does anyone know if dogs can suffer from gastric reflux. If they do what would be the symptoms? Thanks

I've just had my dog Daisy at the vets for just this very thing, I don't know if the technical term would be gastric reflux, but that's how I described it to my vet and he knew exactly what I was on about.
Daisy's problem is she only eats once a day ( her choice ) having an empty stomach makes her bring up yellow bile, sometimes she will bring it up, only to swallow it again.
All fixed now though with Famotidine tablets, which have worked very quickly.
My vet also mentioned that feeding protein with cheese was very effective and long lasting.

Yes I have a 9 year old bitch who went in to the first stages of bloat and they dig a gastric lavage ( clear out) which seems to have burned her gullet.
She starts to get uncomfortable by mid morning if she doesnt have a snack so she has a cocktail sausage 3 times a day and her total feed consumption adjusted accordingly.
Vet has given her Lansoprazole for reflux.

I was amazed to see bottles of Gaviscon at my vets and asked if it was for the use of the staff in the dispensary or did they use it for dogs and yes, they use it for dogs. I use it for the control of gastric reflux so I guess if you want to know if it would help your dog then try it.

Thank you for the replies. My girl has recovered from the sickness she had last week. She was put on Zantac and I noticed while she was on it she stopped eating grass which she has always seemed to do, not just a little but makes a meal out of it. Now I wonder if she was doing this coz she was refluxing. Very interesting to hear the vets are giving Gaviscon.
