I need some help. I'm trying to breed my bitch. The male is mounting her & she's holding his weight but he continues to miss the spot even with help. Has anyone got any tips?

Have  you got a mentor to come and help, it is hard to advise without seeing for ourselves where the problem lies. Can the males owner not help?

The stud dog owner should know how to handle their dog.  If they can't, then perhaps you may have chosen the wrong dog...................

Also a dog will often test the water by mounting without trying to penetrate (foreplay if you like) if the bitch isn't ready, others will sniff the bitch an walk away \9teh older more expereinced ones) if she isn't ready, but some like to flirt.

Is there any height difference between the dog and the bitch? Sometimes it helps to have the bitch facing downhill on a very slight slope. Also, there's often the need to get very 'hands on' when guiding the dog.

I agree with Barbara, he is flirting but not penetrating because she's not yet ripe.  Is he an experienced male?

I totally agree with Barbara and Jean, a dogs nose knows! When he starts peeing on her she's getting close :/

We have many studs most of our studs will let us slip a hand inbetween the male and the female to assist with his aim, so to speak.
However we do have one male that drives us all nuts who will not allow anyone near the mating and if anyone tries to help he simply looses his mojo. His father and grandfather are exactly the same. With him we all just stand and watch, as it's his way or the highway

>With him we all just stand and watch,

Well I don't pretend to have "many" studs.  But I am used to handling matings, and would never risk one of my precious boys and let them just get on with it.

I'm used to handling maiden bitches, and have had several that changed their minds after the tie.  You haven't lived until you've seen a tied bitch turn a somersault to try and get away.  If my boys wouldn't allow my assistance I couldn't use them at stud.  And I always feel a responsibilty to the bitch owner, feeling it's my job to ensure nobody gets injured.
