Why do some people breed?  I don't mind giving help and advice.  And often it's better to help when you know people will go ahead anyway!  So, I often get strangers phone me, asking questions when their bitch is almost due, and they haven't even read anything about breeding.  I freely give advice, as the poor bitch needs all the help she can get with some owners.

I tell them about being with the bitch constantly when they are within a week of due date etc. etc.  Now I have a phone call tonight from someone with a Yorkie bitch, thanking me for all my advice, and letting me know that her bitch whelped today, a couple of days late.   One very large puppy.  She works full time and got a neighbour to look in at 1pm, and the bitch hadn't whelped then, but must have had it sometime this afternoon, as the pup was their when they got home from work!

I despair, honest I do.  I said that she was lucky that her bitch was ok, whelping alone.  Oh no she said, she did fine.  Yeah, like you would know if it was an easy whelp or not with nobody there.

Does anyone else wonder why they bother?  On a plus note, I did have people phone enquiring before they had mated their bitch.  I asked them to visit.  They met all my gang, stayed for a couple of hours, and listened to all the things that had gone wrong for me over the years.  They wrote to me afterwards, a lovely letter, thanking me for all my time, and telling me that they loved their girl too much to risk breeding from her.  So I guess that some people do listen.  :-)

So the dopey so and so had the sense to phone you for advice and then took no heed of it and left the poor girl on her own to whelp alone. She is one very lucky ***** not to have had problems and come home from work to find allsorts of distress.
The sad thing is that because it looks as though all went well this person will think that it's all a walk in the park and no doubt try again.

What a twonk!!!

Know what you mean  about those who ask and don't listen - makes me want to beat my own brains out with a stick sometimes :(  especially when it concerns some poor bitch left to cope on her own with giving birth or some arrogant numpty wanting to breed a toy bitch for the fun of it (or the money) and having NO IDEA of what can go wrong :(   It's always the dog/bitch who pays for their owner's selfishness  I don't know how some people can sleep at night :(

had this at agility club , man going to breed his labradoodle as she is a good speciman of the breed, he works long shifts and so does his wife, so everyone was cooing away at club about what a good mammy she would make etc, and i said you taking time off work ? why he said, well when the pups are about 3 weeks old you need to start weaning them  so you will have to be around a lot,or when they are born mum might not want them so you will have to hand feed them, what if you are at work when she goes into labour and needs to be rushed to the vets as not all whelping goes to plan, it must of struck a note with him as he was going to breed from her september but did not.

On a local Rescue site on FB there was someone whos bitch was on day 65. A 'tea cup' chiuauhua!!!! Aparently the vet had said all was okay, and if there was no pups by monday then she would take her in. This was saturday.
I was shot down for saying if it was my bitch she would have been in by now as a small chiuahua(there is no such thing as tea cup) should not be that far over. And hope by monday she didnt have a dead bitch from inertia(this was at the end of about 10-15 messages and a load of 'pat on backs, your doing okay, waiting to see the cuttie little bundles of fluff and she would probably have had them by the time you wake in the morning :o)
I got totally shot down and I left the group as could not stand to watch it go on!!!
Probably the bitch was perfectly fine and welped the 3 fine as its sods law that a mating like that has no problems whereas one that is planned and health checked etc have problems :(
I was screaming on my facebook status on saturday night so know how you feel!!!
Lea :)

Jean, how do these people find you, are you advertising free breeding advice, or are they given your number by others in the breed?

I guess there might be consolation in fact she only had one pup! On the other hand the person concerned may decide that this breeding lark is such a doddle ( :-O ) thy go on to have another litter in the hope that there may be one or two more pups! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
