Can a mother nursing 4 weeks old puppies pass this on to the pups and if so what are their chances.i posted a few weeks ago when my neighbours dog had pups and ive had the pleasure of seeing them grow and change but this morning i was told mum was very unwell as was her other dog, sickness but not a runny bum.Can pups this young survive a tummy bug?

Pups can survive a tummy bug but they do go down hill lot quicker than an adult so they need to take them to the vets much quicker for re-hydration etc...

I would certainly be at the vet with a nursing bitch if she went down with a bug.  It doesn't hurt pups for mum to be on antibiotics.

I cant update yet because i havent seen her but when i was round earlier her girl was lively enough, still desperate to eat (although her vet said it wouldnt hurt the pups for her to starve her for the 24 hour period) and so far is just being sick nothing else, her temperature is normal too because she took it while i was there. Her other dog had it the day before so definately some sort of bug.i will call tommorrow to see how she is but her concern was that it would pass through the milk to the puppies.

I presume weaning has been started so there will be less demand from the pups for food if Mum is being fasted

I would be washing the affected dogs paws and private bits with discinfectant to prevent it getting back to the pups.
