There was a thread on this last year - I think it was Drover who had a litter born on Halloween and was looking for related names.

Thanks guys, some good ones here. One's got to be Trick or Treat - we even had a knock on the door during the process! If I could have turned the "little dears" into pumpkins myself, I would have!

Congrats on the litter...I have just used that theme and one of my girls is called Bewitched so not sure if they will let it be used for a different breed?
Sorry I can't help you with other names though as I used up all the ones I liked :-)

Yes they will, because it's not a restricted word the way an affix is. :-)

Thanks, found it. I now have plenty of suggestions, and a few options for call names as I'm sure we'll be keeping one.

Have been really struggling to stay awake today, am now trying to remember when I'm supposed to turn the dinner off.  Just as well we don't have pups all that often!

I have a 4 year old bitch here that was a Halloween puppy and I called her - my affix - Pumpkin Pie.  Funnily enough, she never did get given a pet name.  She has always been called Pumpkin Pie and comes to it.  Even the girls at the vet surgery say here comes Pumpkin Pie!
- By Esme [gb] Date 02.11.12 21:35 UTC
I really like Pumpkin Pie. It's on my list!
- By newf3 [gb] Date 02.11.12 21:54 UTC
there is also a bewitched in newfs so they will allow same name just affix needs to be difenant sometimes.

> they will allow same name just affix needs to be difenant

I think that's right. Just look at how many 'Dressed to Impress', 'Truly Scrumptious', 'Kinda Magic' etc, etc there are around. It's quite hard to be completely original.
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 03.11.12 09:58 UTC
I had Pumpkin Pie too but changed it to Pumpkin Patch to for a little girl with a patched eye :-)

Ahh, that's nice!

Yes my litter was born on halloween last year, I went with a witch theme and had: son of a witch, any witch way, witch wiggett (owners surname!) and wicked witch.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.11.12 00:54 UTC
Witches Brew, Pumpkin Pie,
- By Trialist Date 05.11.12 09:21 UTC
Hhmm, tell my main registry only allows 'working' names ... this lot are a lot more imaginative than me ;-)
- By Rhodach [gb] Date 05.11.12 09:47 UTC
I wasn't allowed Affix Dream Catcher for my first litter[each pup had Dream/s in their names, other 2 were Dreams of Light and Awaking my Dream] as it had been taken in my breed, so the affix has nothing to do with it, I wouldn't be using the same name twice, I changed it to Catching Dreams and it was accepted.
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 05.11.12 13:58 UTC
It seems a little hit or miss as someone in my breed has told me that he applied for one of the names I chose some time ago and it was rejected, yet they allowed me to have it??? strange.

It could be that a word was an affix at the time, but hasn't been maintained so became available for use?
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 05.11.12 14:55 UTC
Maybe? who knows :-) I also know of a name including affix (breeder used name twice on 2nd breed) that was accepted, now that is weird xx
- By Dude Dog [gb] Date 05.11.12 23:04 UTC
Dreamcatcher is an affix in Huskies so thats probably why they didnt let you have Dream Catcher.
- By Gemma86 [gb] Date 06.11.12 11:03 UTC
The KC are very strange when it comes to what names they will allow!
We got rejected because we had repeated a word and were told the rules are that you aren't allowed to repeat a word in a litters names. Yet I see sooooooo many from the same litter with a word repeated!? How?

Also in our breed we have 2 bitches called 'affix' Maid Marion, both born around the same time, how silly to allow both to be called the same name
- By Brainless [gb] Date 06.11.12 11:19 UTC
You can even use the same name again if it's at least 10 years since it was used and the dog with it before did not win into the stud book.

but if the dog with the original name had someone else's affix added, you could give the same name again as it would actually not be (exactly) the same name anymore, if you see what I mean.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 06.11.12 11:21 UTC

> Also in our breed we have 2 bitches called 'affix' Maid Marion, both born around the same time

but the names are unique as they have different affixes.

For example I bet there are loads of dogs called Affix Simply The Best, etc
- By Gemma86 [gb] Date 06.11.12 11:59 UTC
Yes I do know that but it's still so very stupid to allow there to be 2 with basically the same name yet if you wanted to name 2 puppies of your own "Affix Hot Chocolate" & "Affix Chocolate Bar" that would be rejected because a word has been repeated even though the names are different?! (i'm sure you can guess what hot drink & nibble i'm having right now lol)
- By Noora Date 06.11.12 13:14 UTC

> that would be rejected because a word has been repeated even though the names are different?!

I used a same word for all bitches and same word for all dogs in the litter this year and had no issues?
e.g all bitches had Myzella and boys Myzelli as part of their name (word made up from sire+dam :))
I did this as it is easy to see which litter they come from as the theme I used would not make it obvious to most.
- By Trialist Date 06.11.12 14:07 UTC
"Affix Hot Chocolate" & "Affix Chocolate Bar" that would be rejected because a word has been repeated even though the names are different?!

So long as you have an affix you can repeat a word though. As an example the litter I registered this year was AFFIX Jubilee ... names. Ha, my one time of doing 'posh' names but as they were born Jubilee weekend how couldn't I?!! Before anyone asks the names did not involve Queenie, Prince or Beatrice, Wills, etc :-O :-O

However, if you don't have an affix then you wont be able to repeat an individual word in a litter.
- By Gemma86 [gb] Date 06.11.12 14:18 UTC
We do have an affix, maybe the person who did the registrations was new at the kc? who knows! But I shall remember it for this litter as I have a good few names in mind that I would like to repeat a word :)
- By Trialist Date 07.11.12 05:45 UTC
How strange, but you may be right. Well good luck with the next attempt ;-)
- By Sarah Date 07.11.12 06:06 UTC
We had a Jubilee litter too ;-)
- By Sarah Date 07.11.12 06:47 UTC
A lot depends on which person you get in the registration department too. I lost a whole theme because technically they weren't proper words, although there are many other examples of that happening :-)

With my last litter, two words I wanted were already affixes, so you cannot use them regardless, however the person helping me wanted to try and find ways around this! I wasn't bothered as I had spare names I was happy to use. I repeated diamond and jubilee  :-)

For Halloween how about Samhain?
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 07.11.12 12:32 UTC
In 3 litters my friend bred she used the word "Pink" in each name so you were very unlucky to have the one word not to be repeated rule enforced. :-(
