Is there any recommended supplement to give pregnant bitch or prior to mating that can help development of teeth in pups.
In a previous litter we had a pup with one tooth crooked and well back from the rest. Someone sugested that the bitch may have been lacking in something dietary. Any thoughts.

Calcium is the only thing (I think) that will help in the development of teeth, however over supplementing can cause very serious damage to the bones so please be careful how much you give. It is not wise to give calcium to the pregnant bitch unless recommended by your vet as it seems to prevent her utilising the naturally occuring calcium from her diet. Once she has had the pups you can supplement the calcium until the pups are weaned, at which time you can start supplementing the pups, but as I said before be very careful not to over supplement as the problems caused are so serious.

I don't think, however, that this will prevent a crooked or out of place tooth, this is a structural fault in the jaw rather than a problem in the development of the teeth.
