Topic Dog Boards / General / Alan Titch challenges Cesar Millan! Yay!
- By HuskyGal Date 24.10.12 16:52 UTC
Alan Titchmarch show ~ not up on itv player yet but it's on you tube ( will post link in a min... I'm on my mobile)

HOOOOOOOOORAH! The wee gardener did us proud and challenged the Charlatan Showman.

I avoided watching as thought it would be more of the Millan showboat PR machine but then saw Steve Mann's comments on my Facebook and took a peek and glad I did.

Titch you're my Hero! :0D

*Delighted*

I saw this and Cesar looked very uncomfortable !
He was there to promote a show next year, think he will sell less tickets now !
- By HuskyGal Date 24.10.12 17:16 UTC
I was watching and willing the camera to pan back onto Millan... All that lip licking, hand clenching, facial muscle tensions..... Ooh Physician cure thyself! Haha taste of own medicine.
- By HuskyGal Date 24.10.12 17:32 UTC
Well worth looking at the comments on the Alan Titchmarsh show Facebook page, the tide may well be finally turning? The ratio of pro milans to anti is nominal!
And some great comments to read through.
- By Lacy Date 24.10.12 17:35 UTC
The sound drops out half way, will try again on I player.
- By Paula [gb] Date 24.10.12 17:59 UTC
Fantastic!!!

Loved him saying it as it is!!

Off to FB in a mo to have a looky what's being said!!

Yayyyyy!!!
- By Stooge Date 24.10.12 18:25 UTC
Excellent.  Titchmarsh was not only unflinching and direct but showed a clear understanding of dogs and was impressively well informed.  Well done the man!
- By Celli [gb] Date 24.10.12 19:04 UTC
He wasn't fobbed off either with CM's excuse for his " touch ", nor his pathetic attempt to distance himself from owners trying his method at home .
- By HuskyGal Date 24.10.12 19:12 UTC
A better clip here:http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=97lwtUkXjwQ
For anyone who can't wait to watch it on iplayer or catch up.

I jet washed the tv screen with the mouthful of tea I had, at " erm... I don't use food [as a reward]... I,erm...once used a Parrot" :-D

I expect he taught it to squawk TSSSSST!
- By annieg3 [gb] Date 24.10.12 19:48 UTC
It was brilliant. I do not normally watch AT and was just flicking through and saw dog's worst friend sitting there. AT was brill. He kept at him and at him and CM looked more than a bit uncomfortable. Well done lad!!!!!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 24.10.12 20:12 UTC Edited 24.10.12 20:15 UTC
The sound drops out of the version I saw on FB and I can't watch the versions here because the browser doesn't recognise it. :-(

Is this one any better Jean? It works well here, and this computer is ancient.
- By Pinky Date 24.10.12 20:41 UTC
Not seen it but will check out the links.

Nice to think that Mr gorgeous in his wellies can knock spots off Mr super teeth.

If the 'Titch' could write a book called '50 Sheds of Grey, my dog and a trowel' I'd buy it ;)
- By JeanSW Date 24.10.12 20:57 UTC
MsTemeraire

Thank you for the link, I had sound problems too until you posted.  How wonderful to see the guy lick his lips and squirm.  Well done Alan for so obviously having some canine knowledge.
- By dorcas0161 [gb] Date 24.10.12 21:04 UTC
Thanks for posting the link, and well done to Alan Tichmarsh for raising the questions. Hope the message get to as many as possible.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 24.10.12 21:07 UTC
Perfect, thanks MsTemeraire! :-) That dreadful man was taken aback, and gentle Alan Titchmarsh was in deadly earnest!
- By Lacy Date 24.10.12 21:36 UTC
Thank you, I've got sound, great to see him looking uncomfortable & shifty. Not a fan of Mr T, but well done him.
- By ceejay Date 24.10.12 22:17 UTC
Yes a good interview - I had already heard him this morning on Radio 4 - Libby Purvis didn't question him so well - rather let him rabbit on about people not having energy - watching this second interview I could see he was rolling out the same 'funny' stories - he can't adapt his answers to the questions - he had his set piece to say - LP asked him about the use of e-c*****s etc and he said that in some cases they should be used - as in dogs that chase cats etc (with the intent of killing them that is of course) - so LP mentioned Fenton!!!   Check out Midweek - diverse conversations.
- By MsTemeraire Date 24.10.12 22:46 UTC

> rather let him rabbit on about people not having energy

Energy, schmenergy.
I live right next door to Glastonbury and grew up here... if I set up a centre for reading dogs' auras and doing Tarot for them I'd get customers tomorrow. I know bull when I see it - an excuse for dog abuse wrapped up in some hippy sh*t.
- By MsTemeraire Date 24.10.12 23:14 UTC
Now I think of it, if setting something like that up leads to positive training, then why not.... I like the sound of the Glastonbury Holistic Canine Resource.... You heard it here first!
- By suejaw Date 25.10.12 05:41 UTC
Well done Sir Alan, that man is such a tit!!!  I wish the media would push Ian Dunbar up a notch or two, if Ian wants it... He and some others are the ones the GP should be listening too!!!  HG you know Ian right? Lol
- By furriefriends Date 25.10.12 08:15 UTC
Must. Go and have a look on iplayer. I had no idea .r( had knowledge or interest in dogs. From your comments he clearly  does or does his research very thoroughly
- By Carrington Date 25.10.12 09:50 UTC
Well done Mr T, :-)

CM basically said, 'don't do as I do seek a professional.' Probably time for the people who copied him and in turn damaged their dogs to take him to court for damages and get back all the money he has made through doing and talking poppycock. He's made himself very wealthy through showing the world how 'not' to treat a dog, it's about time he was accountable for his actions, along with the TV shows for inciting the cruel treatment of dogs.
- By tooolz Date 25.10.12 09:54 UTC
It looked to me like he was used to talking his way out of his own stupidity.
He had lots of stock phrases, analogies and quips to hand......
but the one about the owner who wanted him to get her dog to kiss her... despite biting her face repeatedly ... told it all. He took the money!!!!!

> He's made himself very wealthy

I showed the interview to my husband - who had never really heard of the guy - he said he totally lacked credibility and wouldn't give him the time of day.  He was amazed when I told him about the big following he has and how even some of the people I know will argue that CM is right and respect his methods.  He has taken alot of people in and as you say Carrington - made alot of money!  This interview was in advance of CM's next tour of UK I believe - hopefully folks will not be turning up in droves but so many people are looking for an easy way to control their dogs and unfortunately as long as these programmes keep getting shown on tv - and his books remain prominant on the bookshelves he will go on raking it in for the timebeing.  Get Paxo to interview him and then we will see exactly what he is made of!!  Alan Titchmarsh just put his view over - and there are still lots of folks out there who believe getting tough with your dog is the way to go.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 25.10.12 12:50 UTC
Brilliant wasn't it, so nice to see someone stand up to CM and tell him how barbaric his methods are. :-)
- By LJS Date 25.10.12 13:01 UTC
He is such a plonker that man he now goes onto say that a shock collar is useful if you have arthritis and you want assurance that you would be able to control a Rottweiler !!

- By Goldmali Date 25.10.12 13:12 UTC
(Just tagging on to the end here.) I've finally watched it now and loved it. What made me laugh (or cry -can't decide!) the most was CM's explanation for why he will punch a dog -because a CAT will hit a dog across the face! According to him the cat will then have the dogs' respect. How many cats has he watched around dogs?? Plenty of dogs would take that as a cue to kill the cat -and I say that as somebody who owns two dogs that absolutely cannot be trusted anywhere near cats. Being whacked in the face by a cat's paw most certainly won't make them think the cat's in charge. What a pathetic excuse for abuse.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 25.10.12 13:13 UTC

>Get Paxo to interview him and then we will see exactly what he is made of!!

Oh my, I'd pay good money to watch that!
- By Rhodach [gb] Date 25.10.12 13:53 UTC
None of the links are working for me, I don't do facebook and not found it on ITV player either, me thinks they have all been removed.
- By Celli [gb] Date 25.10.12 14:09 UTC
Try STV player rather than ITV, it's on there .
- By Goldmali Date 25.10.12 14:33 UTC
Definitely not been removed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=97lwtUkXjwQ
- By HuskyGal Date 25.10.12 15:34 UTC

>Yorkshire tyke takes on Mexican teeth ....and wins!!!

:-D hahaha!

My favourite comment so far was from Steve Mann saying ".. Audley Harrison has asked [CM] for tips on improving his 'touch'..."
ROFL.
- By Fluffyheads [gb] Date 25.10.12 19:59 UTC
Good for Alan T! I think he is a good interviewer, gets to the point!
- By Rhodach [gb] Date 25.10.12 20:17 UTC
Thank Marianne that link did work, it may have been down as there was a comment underneath about comments made using foul language had been removed and they were all CM fans.

AT did a very good job and stuck to his guns when CM said he was only touching the dog not thumping it, pity there couldn't have been audience participation, he would have then see that the Brits don't agree with his out moded barbaric training techniques.
- By MsTemeraire Date 25.10.12 22:04 UTC

> He was there to promote a show next year, think he will sell less tickets now !

Don't hold your breath....
Disgusted to see a long, full-blown TV ad, in an ad-break DURING today's Alan Titchmarsh show, for his forthcoming tour. Blech.
- By ceejay Date 25.10.12 22:20 UTC
I did look it up - the local show is in the arena - so expecting loads of people - all paying £40!!   It is in April.  Does anyone stand outside and protest I wonder????  I once went to see the Jerry Springer opera and there was a great crowd outside singing hymns to protest (and they hadn't seen the show).  How about a mass agility event. :-)  A mass clicker chorus!  ?
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 26.10.12 17:25 UTC
That sounds like a great idea!
- By HuskyGal Date 26.10.12 17:44 UTC

>A mass clicker chorus! ?

Brilliant! I'm in :-)
- By Lea Date 26.10.12 20:00 UTC
Still havnt seen it as my broadband is less than 1mbps!!! :( :(  So wont sustain the links.
- By Lea Date 26.10.12 20:30 UTC
OMG I have just managed to watch this intermitently thanks to goldmalis link. WOW, poor Alan sounded so frustrated and wanted to get across what he wanted to say despite what ceaser said!!! Ceaser is so uncomfortable on everything Alan says!!!!! Probably knows he cant punch Alan to keep him quiet!!
Ceaser didnt come across as a good dog trainer at all!!!!
Lea :)
- By ChinaBlue [gb] Date 26.10.12 22:15 UTC
Did anyone see this clip where the idiot puts a dog under so much pressure she takes a good bite out of him?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ihXq_WwiWM

Great interview by AT, always had a soft spot for him.
- By shivj [gb] Date 27.10.12 06:30 UTC
Oh my goodness, I don't watch CM prigrammes, for me they are about TV not about training dogs and very unhelpful for genuinely desperate people with troubled dogs, but I am in shock about this clip above! This is downright dangerous behaviour! No wonder people get bitten and no wonder there are so many confrontational and aggressive dogs on the streets if people are watching this kind of thing! Oh dear :-(
- By ChinaBlue [gb] Date 27.10.12 07:49 UTC
Yes, this was IMO downright criminal behaviour, and I felt sorry for this dog. I felt sorry for the owners too, because I can only think that the problem was made worse by his behaviour, not better.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 27.10.12 07:53 UTC
And the most dangerous bit is that well-meaning but ignorant people will copy him, get bitten, and their dogs will lose their lives. It's happened before and it'll happen again.
