Ive forgotten how to quote and its annoying me...ive searched the site for the last time i asked but the list is endless and no comments about quoting, currently i am highlighting the words i wish to use and clicking on the little " button and it comes up with a loadof jibberish in front....
what am i doing wrong?
- By Daisy [gb] Date 22.10.12 18:34 UTC
Swipe and copy what you want then put > at the beginning of a line and paste your text after it (you'll need to put a > at the beginnng of every line).

Thanks lea!  :-)  :-)

I have only ever been able to quote and reply to the same poster.  I have always wondered how the hell people do a quote from a user they're not responding to.

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!  :-)  :-)

or you can use the litte quote button you find at the bottom you click on the person's text you want to responde to.
Highlight the text then click on the quote button & hey presto

This can be done either before you write your words or after :)

See, I get the jibberish too! I have no idea why, it never used to do that, it's nothing you are doing wrong.
If I'm quoting from the post I'm replying to, I just use the above method and delete the jibberish - (remember to leave the '>' at the begining).

Does everyone else get the 'jibberish' when using the quote button?

Yes, as you can see. So I have to delete the rubbish bit at the beginning, just leaving the > sign, as below. It didn't used to happen but does now.

That's why I don't bother with the 'quote' button - just cut and paste after a > :)
- By Romside [gb] Date 25.10.12 13:07 UTC

Not if you highlight the bit you want & use the quote button

Of course what I meant was 'copy' and paste - not cut :)

I still get the jibberish

I tried both. quote and copy and paste.  To work out how to do it best.  :)

Edited to add - Brill!!!! I can copy and paste :)  but not quote :(  Ah well.

That's what I do too when using my iPad (the quote button works fine on my PC)
I find it depends on wether I'm using my PC or a mobile device ( my iPad ) as to wether I get the jibberish

Perhaps thats the reason then, as I only ever use a pc for internet access.

So do I, but I still get the gobbledegook as you can see. But I didn't used to. Same PC, same me just plus the unwanted stuff.

Ah well, what's a bit of deleting amongst friends!

I always wondered how you did that, I just copied and pasted.

all good here :)

I get the gobbledegook on my PC (laptop), it is connected to the homehub wirelessly, using IE.

I've just checked and I don't get the gobbledegook on my ipod (wireless) or on my Mac (connected direct to homehub via a cable).

Strange, I was wondering if some servers are the cause, but all 3 ways for me to connect to the internet are all through the same server, so that doesn't seem to be the case.

It also isn't a case of wireless connection v's cable connection.

It also doesn't seem to be a case of different browsers as I don't get the gibberish when using Safari, but HuskyGal does, unless HG is not using Safari on her iPad? But then we still have people here with no problems on a PC.....

There doesn't seem to be a common denominator for the appearence of gibberish. It seems to be just pot luck!
