Reposting this here in case noone looks in the thread. Long story short, my puppy daycare sitter can no longer take him on Wednesdays, which is the one day my OH and I cannot be flexible about work. The one day :( He leaves at 10am, I am back at 5pm. The sitter could come for an hour and walk pup for his allowed time and my two adults. What is th ebest solution do you think? I don't remotely like the idea of him being alone for that long, even though i know many puppy owners who do longer than this regularly. Pup is just under 6 months. Disaster :(

Sounds like you don't have a choice and pup won't be going to daycare forever.
Just make sure that hubby exercises and toilets pup before he goes out, and that dog walker walks them smack bang in the middle of being left.
I assume you won't be crating pup for that long ?

Personally i don't think this is too bad, If the walker can come at 1-2 that means there is 3 hours each side that pup is alone. It may not be ideal, others may think it just isn't on to leave a dog that long but that pup is 6 months old so can hold for that long, plus what is the alternative? You have to work to be able to feed and look after the dog?
It may take a short while to get used to but its not a long time really, especially if they are getting a split up of time for an hour inbetween.

No he is only crated at night and that's because he sleeps in our room and would hop on the bed otherwise (he's about 35kg and my other 32kg dog sleeps on the bed LOL). We have an old, stupidly shaped house so turned the front medium sized room into a complete dog friendly room so he would be there with my adult boy behind a baby gate. Our adult girl would be on the opposite side of the babygate, i won't leave them together for lots of hours because they play quite rough and i would prefer to supervise.

I think your pup will be fine with this. View it as his rest day and make sure he is tired out the day before. At 6 months my pup was choosing to take 3 hour naps after intense activity!

I agree with the others, it's not that bad just one day a week - and remember he is nearly 6 months, not a baby puppy of 10 weeks. He'll be fine!

Maybe give him a few minutes basic training before you leave him too? I find hat my sighthound crashes out for hours after brainwork!

I think it will be fine. When my greyhound was a puppy at that age. I would walk him in the morming, let him have breakfast. Then I would play, practies standing with him. Make kongs up for him, put the radio on for him. Just before I went to work I would let him in the garden to do wees. My dad would come round at lunch time to let him out for wee and give him his lunch. The mimture I got home I would let him out for a wee. He was very good I had no mess in the house.
To this day he has to have the radio on as he likes it.

Thanks everyone! I have lots of experience with adult hounds, the youngest being 1.5 yrs when i got her, but this is my first puppy of the breed, and first puppy in a long time, so i just want to do things the best way possible :)
