Topic Dog Boards / Health / Not in season but is attracting males

My girl is not in season nor is she due until the beginning of next year, I know they don't always go by the book but she is not!!
My boy who is entire is attracted to her and sniffing and licking her but nothing else. Yesterday at a show a mal dog mounted my girl, she's wasn't best pleased.
We've not had any issues out on walks or any other dogs and just wondered what your thoughts were on this? When she was in season my boy wasn't really bothered by her, however they were split up!!

Any ideas or is it just one of those things?

Maybe she has vaginitis and smells a bit extra delicious to the boys? My bitch always gets attention out of season too.

Check her anal glands and see if they need emptying, anal glands and infection also draw attention to female dogs just the same as being in season.

If those two things are ok, could just be over zealous youngsters humping everything they meet - happens! :-D

I will get her to the vets to be checked out... Her butt doesn't smell like my boys does when his glands need emptying... She is fine within herself..

More likely to be an infection either UT or Vaginal.

Urine infection is my first thought.  Saffi had a lot of attention like that in the summer when hers started, and she's been spayed for a few years now.

She doesn't have any form of discharge, swelling, signs of passing blood or struggling to urinate..
Does that still sounds like either of the above?  She will be goin to the vets next week but in the mean time I'm just wondering.. If she has either can it be passed on to others dogs, as in do I need to keep her confined? She was at a show yesterday and due to attend another tomorrow too!!

UTI is often not accompanied by symptoms that are visible so it is still likely. If you can see discharge, swelling or there is passing of blood the infection has become severe. She will be infectious but I do not think there is need to keep her away from other dogs.

Are you absolutely sure she isn't coming into season early?  I have two entire boys here and they have managed to bring a friends girls into season early on at least three occasions.  If I remember correctly one of those times the bitch was 4 months early!!  The boys noticed two days before she started showing any signs at all.

Saffi only had extra attention for a little while, nothing else at all and at the time I didn't think much of it - it's one of those hindsight situations.  The extra attention stopped so I thought she was ok, then she went on ABs for it in July when I came down to a puddle of what looked rather like red barley water on the kitchen floor.  It improved but is now back again with a vengeance.  She had a bladder scan on Wednesday because it hasn't responded to the ABs this time, and I'm now waiting on a sample to be tested as the scan was clear but she's no better, very uncomfortable with it.  It still looks like an infection, I think just a very nasty one but they're going to culture it and work out exactly what it is so it can be treated once and for all.

If you're sure your girl's not in season, get a sample and get her to the vet - catch it early.

this was happening to one of my girls and it turned out to be ovarian cysts. The cysts were causing her to produce too much hormone so made her smell as if she was in season.

Thought she was having a phantom, still a possibility but now thinking it is her anal glands and both are booked in this week to be done!!

I'd take a urine sample to the vets when you go so an infection can be ruled out. S

Thanks will try and collect a sample, not easy chasing dogs around the garden to collect their pee!!! Lol

Vets confirmed very mild case of a phantom and also anal glands were full!!! Phew!!

Mystery solved at least you can now relax, and I'm sure she feels super now that those anal glands are emptied too. :-)
