Could anyone recommend a book that focusses on selecting the right stud dog.Thanks.

I think most breeding books cover it.  Experience and your breeder would get you in the right direction.

Never seen a book aimed at such a subject, have you tried searching the internet and jot down points that cover all breeds and anything relevant to your breed.

I had help from the breeder of my first two girls for my first litter and after that I did my own research and then asked their opinions on the ones on my short list.

When asking someone in your breed for advice go to someone who is well known within the breed, regularly uses outside studs and gets good quality pups out of each pairing, they will hopefully share their criteria with you and may know the lines your dog is from and help you make a stud choice for your bitch or make suggestions of 3 or 4 for you to look at, being known they can introduce you to stud owners you may have been wary to approach yourself.

By going to someone with dogs at stud for advice you may get their own dogs coming up as your best choice which may not be right.

I have asked judges of my breed but not my type for stud suggestions based on conformation they have seen in the ring, I got the same 2 or 3 names coming up each time that I then went away and did my homework on.

Mary Roslin Williams books are great.
(If you take some of the stuff about winning with a pinch of salt. Some big kennels could win CCs with a cat on a string back then)..... but she sure knew how to breed dogs.
