Im no busy body but i want to clear something up....
I know of a lady who is a member of the kennel clubs abs and it clearly states all breeding stock must be kc reg, yes? WELL THEYRE NOT! IN FACT I THINK ITS ONLY THE ONE MALE AND ONE FEMALE SHE HAS REGISTERED!!!oh sorry about caps mistake

she has at least 11doggies all unregistered and breeding from them....im really not happy about being a grass so wont say nothing but i cant help but wantto you know...

and it also says about the endorsments...breeders must make people completely aware of them,i always get people to read a seperate section in my contract saying you are aware of ect ect and then sign next to it....is this enough??

>im really not happy about being a grass so wont say nothing but i cant help but wantto you know...

If you feel what she's doing is wrong, and you have evidence, then you must report her. Anything else is being complicit in a fraud, and I'm sure you're an honest person.
- By Romside [gb] Date 06.10.12 12:44 UTC
Well yes i am honest thats why its annoying!! i follow the rules because i agree with them ect but to have the title and take the total mick really gets my goat!!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 06.10.12 13:41 UTC
Well the only way to stop it is to report them so they get kicked off.

It's not a matter of being a 'grass'. If someone has signed up to the AB Scheme, agreeing to the terms and conditions, then they should abide by them. There have been puppy farmers on the AB Scheme in the past, I've not researched recently, they may well still be there. But, the KC are really pushing the AB Scheme and holding up their members as responsible and ethical breeders. If there are those still on the list who are not then the KC need to be notified. Simple.

Oh, dear, I thought this thread was going to be about how to achieve a flat tummy.....:-)

Trialist..I wish there was a like button.

I agree with your comments completely.

I wouldn't hesitate to report it.

The trouble is one complaint won't get them kicked off the ABS believe you me, been there done that, complete waste of time.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 06.10.12 18:40 UTC
but it will get them investigated/visited, they will be on the radar and hopefully with corroboration by others will do the job.

Everyone making 'just one' complaint about an individual soon adds up to a lot of complaints about that individual; the first one gets them on the radar and subsequent ones make them more noticeable. Not reporting simply enables them to continue for longer.

Im goingto be making the call first thing monday morning...matt says its not grassing the rules are the to be abided by and if he/she cant do that then dont join...i know hes right....

I reported a Breeder not far from here who had flouted all the rules.

She bred from a bitch under the age recommended by the Breed Club.
Neither bitch or sire had been eye tested.
She wasn't a member of any Breed Clubs.

The KC told me that technically she hadn't broken any of the Terms of Membership, as she'd registered the puppies 1 week before joining the scheme.

What A Joke!!

Well she hadn't broken any rules -what could the KC have done? They couldn't exactly UNregister them again, nor could they have known she was about to join. Should she try again to register pups from parents not eye tested, THEN they will be rejected.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 07.10.12 09:53 UTC
Well to be fair they cannot do something about what happened before joining.
- By Tyddhound [gb] Date 07.10.12 10:04 UTC
It was a calculated move on her part to get all the Benefits and Kudos of being a member of the scheme, without having done any of the things required.

It was blatantly plastered all over her Puppy Adverts and her web site that she and her dogs were part of the scheme, and that the buyers would be getting a healthier puppy, than that from a litter of a non member.

Ida - I must admit, I clicked on it for exactly the same reason, hoping for a miracle cure ;-)

i joinedthe sceme ill be honest only to realise i dont need a fancy title to help 'sell' my puppies!! i dont do things like some do,i interview and if potential puppy owners dont like me or if my dogs dont like them then guess what!!!!!

point being i wont be renewing!whats the point?

however do agree kc cant be responsible for fibbers and untrustworty people can they....if others wantto be dodgy it cant be helped but all my dogs are health tested or hereditory clear ect....

another topic i reckon....

I don't see it just as a way to sell pups -if that was the case, I'd not need to be a member every year anyway. But I am finding that I am getting a fair few phonecalls, about both my breeds, from people just wanting ADVICE. They've been to the KC website, found my details, in my main breed perhaps been impressed by the fact I am currently the only member with all the accolades (there's not many of us that are ABs), and so they call and say "I hope you don't mind but please can you help me/answer some questions/give some advice" -which I never mind doing and I am glad people DO ask, especially when the questions are about whether the breed is suitable for them at all, or when they have a problem with a dog they already own. So I see it as a way to take responsibility for my breeds. Breeding is so much more than just selling pups.
- By Romside [gb] Date 07.10.12 21:46 UTC
yes that was my point, ive heard of a few people saying it sells the pups for you and i think its wrong of people to assume we all joined just to 'look' good and sound better...i am good and am better i do it all how it should be done
!i agree goldmali.
everything about the ABS i do anyway, without it being a condition i just belive in the right thing to do..mmm think i may have dug myself a hole cos im not getting accross what i mean....

i hope you dont think i meant it helpssell pups i dont think like that!!
- By AlisonGold [fr] Date 08.10.12 17:13 UTC
I have actually been told by people in my breed (CH show judges) that the reason they decided to join (they were originally against it) was to sell their pups. I believe it should have more kudos than that but sadly it doesn't.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 08.10.12 19:38 UTC
Well I don't think I have ever had a puppy enquiry based on my membership of the ABS, which granted is only since 2010.  Most of my enquiries come via my own website and the breed club.
- By Romside [gb] Date 09.10.12 12:28 UTC
I phoned the kennel club yesterday and i was told, she can have as many bitches as she likes.they DONT all have to be kc registered to breed from..so a bitch that isnt kc or pedigree for that matter can be bred from and she can still be a member.so i asked but doesnt all BREEDING stock have to be registered so she said no!!

im confused cos its a rule isnt it?im an 'assured breeder' i know the rules but now im totally confused!!!!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 09.10.12 12:34 UTC

>so i asked but doesnt all BREEDING stock have to be registered so she said no!!

 How odd. The KC Webpage starts off by saying "Assured breeders must Ensure that all breeding stock is Kennel Club registered".
- By Brainless [gb] Date 09.10.12 12:38 UTC
Maybe that applies to all breeding stock of registrable breeds?.

There are breeds not recognised by the kennel club, working lines and crosses etc, over which the kennel club has no jurisdiction.

I'd write to Mr Lambert at the Kennel club for a written official response, remember your talking to staff at the Kennel Club (not all will be au fait with all rules) on the phone.

I too got my hopes up thinking this was it - it was time for me to see my abs again but I too was wrong 😀
