Hi guys,

When I read online, there is a lot of literature regarding pregnant dogs and exercise. Some would say to go for normal exercise like chasing frisbees, playing catch as though nothing's normal during the first few weeks. Others are more hesitant in doing so.

My dog was mated 8 days ago and she's been acting the same with her jumping. She likes to sort of stand up on her hind legs and put her forelegs on tables and other surfaces and then jump down and up again, especially when she's investigating things.  I'm thinking the amount of jiggling when she goes up and down can be comparable with chasing frisbees.

Around which week should I stop her from doing this?

Thanks.

I have always allowed my girls to do as much exercise as they wanted /were capable of right up to the point of labour. This has included swimming. We have never had a problem with this and healthy puppies have been born within an hour of dashing around fields . As in humans, pregnancy is not an illness and a healthy bitch should be allowed to enjoy life as usual.  Guess I drew a line at diving into the lake when a girl got near her time. I did not fancy a water birth birth for puppies !

Thanks for the reply, Jan.

Well I guess swimming sort of lessens the jarring pressure compared to landing on solid ground upon jumping? I mean there is a reason why injured people use water as a means of exercise since it's gentler.

LOL my girl goes bonkers when someone's at the door. She gets sooo excited and starts to jump up and down, zig zag, and sort of encircle you for attention.  I just fear maybe from a jump, she can sort of dislodge a pup.

I let them do what their bodies will allow.
