Hi my 7 month old dog has started limping on his back leg.he started about a week ago and its only when he has been lying down for a while and lasts less than a minute. We took him the vets and she said everything felt ok and was moving fine but he didn't limp at vets and it is quite bad when he first moves.Have just been giving him short walks on lead but it doesn't seem to be getting any better.Does anyone please have any ideas as its driving him and us mad not allowed a run incase it makes it worse. any advise would be great. Thanks in advance

Could it be his knee cap slipping and causing the joint to lock? It is always the way that what ever is wrong with them doesn't show at the vets.
Can you get a video to show the vet?
Hope it isn't anything serious.

I hadn't thought of getting a video of it, will do that thanks
It really is a good idea of Rhodach's to video ... a friend of mine had a dog with a limping problem recently (never at the vets!) and ended up videoing it through frustration. It helped the vet tremendously with diagnosis and treatment. Hope it turns out to be something minor :-)

Just managed to get a really good look after getting a video of him and it seems to be his foot not his leg so it seems to be his little toe so its a trip to the very again I think
I would have a good look between his toes and his pads to see if there is a grass seed or something stuck. You could try soaking it in warm salt water as that may encourage a foreign body to come to the surface. My 13 yr old came back from a walk and then started intermittently limping, after wrestling him to the floor ( he hates his feet being touched ;) ) I discovered a piece of flint wedged fast, a quick pull and it was out.
Good Luck

Hi again thanks for all the advice I ended up taking him to a different vet as ours was talking xrays and operations and within 2 minutes he had told me that he'd pulled the crucial ? Tendon/ligament in his knee he gave me some tablets for him and 3 days later he is nearly as good as new. I am so glad I tried a different vet as it saved buddy all the trauma of xrays etc and saved me the worry and expense that my original vet would of caused

It is the CRUCIATE ligament. (Even though it is "crucial"!)

Glad you have got to the bottom of the problem with your big boy.
