Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Flatcoat query?
- By guest [gb] Date 23.01.03 17:04 UTC
Hello everyone,
I have noticed lately that there is an increase on this board of people wanting flatcoats and as the proud owner of 3, i am finding it a bit worrying, i liked having a breed that wasnt amazingly popular, and i would just like to state i am not trying to cause a arguement or complaining!
i have also noted that someone has been asking who the top CC winners ever in flatties are, am i correct in thining the dog is Shargleam Blackcap? would anyone be able to tell em the top winning bitch, just out of intrest?
Hoping to hear from other flattie owners very soon and thanks to whoever answers me!
Love Heidi (and the dogs- Storm, Jet, and Quinn!)

Without looking it up I would have said Stroan was possibly the top CC winner.

Off the top of my head, I think Gayplume Dixie may be the top winning bitch; can look up the others in the year books, but it'll take time! Branchalwood Stroan could well be there; you're probably right, John.

To be honest, dogs who have held record numbers of tickets have worried me inasmuch as I hate to see the 'popular sire syndrome', when too many people's eggs are all put in the same basket with resulting problems.

I would guess your probably right about Dixie Jo. So who's the top Field Trials winner? Trioaks Raffles? Or do we go back further to one of the Glidesdown dogs?

Regards, John

Top field dogs in flatcoats are not as easy to name. Obviously our last Field Trial Champion was FT. CH Werrion Redwing of Collyers, but I would also rank highly as working dogs the Warresmere line and Tarncourt line, not forgetting the Claverdons and Fenrivers.
Like Jo I think it is worrying to have a breed with a small gene pool, which could so very easily become plagued by "Top Sire" popularity. We need to keep diversity.

Claverdon Raffles of Collyers has had a profound effect on the working lines recently, particularly through Varingo Richboy - very capable dogs in the right hands.

Was he not one of the dogs used for AI to New Zealand, the name rings a bell after reading an article in Australasian Gundog magazine, about 2 UK Flatcoats used for AI to NZ bitches??????
