If I had an adult dog who was used to having some meat with dinner, mince etc, and happily ate that and ignored most of the dry food i would wait it out without the meat until he gave in, i don't want to do that with a 5 month old pup surely?

Depends for how many days.  I'd do it for a couple of days but wouldn't any longer.  However, dogs are pretty good at eating what they need to survive (most of the time), so it does suggest that perhaps there's too much food overall and he doesn't need that much - or a sign that you need to cut back from 4 meals to 3 or 3 meals to 2 (depending on where you are at the moment).

I feed pups on kibble only, partly because I like to train with their meals and that is much easier with kibble, but also so that tasty training treats seem extra tasty by comparison to their relatively boring meals.  Many times, I get pups at class which eat delicious wet foods and they are turning their noses up at their owners' hotdog sausages and cheese treats.  Because - why should they work for something when they can get something just as tasty for free, and they get it frequently too?  So I use kibble only for pups and once I've developed the right attitude towards food and training, I then add stuff to it once they are in adolescence and/or beyond.

My pup is 5 months and taking the canzocal supplement as recommended by the breeder which comes in a powder form, about as unappetising as can be, so i put that in mince which i give on top of the dry food. i also feed naturediet pouches a couple of times a week depending on if i've run out of meat or whatever. funnily enough he will do anything to try steal the adult's dry food and likewise they are trying to steal the puppy dry food!!!

Dog's always want what they don't often have.  Hence why they are trying to steal each other's food.  This is also why many dogs can seem enthusiastic for a new food at first, but then end up losing enthusiasm.

I'd feed them separately, so they don't know what each other are eating.

Can you not stir the kibble and mince up more, so the mince is all over the kibble?

You can also use yoghurt if you're giving a powder supplement - a dessertspoon of yoghurt with the powder stirred in, then stirred into kibble.

They are fed separately but they just seem to know!

I do that with the mince and kibble but possibly i am feeding too much now because we feed three times a day, so about 600g plus the mince...

I didn't know i could mix the powder into yogurt, wasn't sure if such a thing might reduce it's efficacy (probably a silly thing to think). :)

They can smell what the others are eating, they don't need to see it to know it's different :)

Do you soak the kibble? If not, try letting it soak in warm (not hot) water with the mince mixed well into it for a little while (10+mins), it should help the mince flavour/smell to soak into the kibble, making the kibble more interesting.

The adults eat outdoors but yeah no doubt they do know. He actually doesn't like it soaked funnily enough! My others love that but he likes to crunch on dry food.... funny pup!

Mine don't like their kibble soaked, and only time they get it like that is when nursing, and their teeth get very dirty with it soaked.
