Topic Dog Boards / Health / Front legs tremble
- By Jaffa [gb] Date 02.10.12 20:08 UTC
Ive just got a 12 week dobe, and pretty much since ive had her ive noticed when she is sitting one or sometimes both her front legs tremble.  She is healthy and active and it doesn't cause her any problems and it is only when in a sitting position it happens.  Has anyone else come across this and does anyone know the cause please?

My Mums Dobe did it all his life. Never had a problem. It was just the way he was. He was not a nervy dog but quite often while he was sat she noticed it. Most dogs that are sitting are looking at you (not relaxed as when lying down or moving around) the sit is a kind of expectant thing, waiting to see whats going to happen next so it could just be mild excitement. We used to say Soli was awaiting instructions !!

I don't know the cause, but My hwv pup did exactly the same thing. He grew out of it by 6 months, or perhaps earlier.

My parent's old crossbreed has done this all her life. It seems to happen if she sits in a certain way - no nervousness or anticipation, I've always put it down to putting pressure on a certain nerve or muscle causing it to twitch.

It's the first dobe or other dog i've has this, it definately seems to be a twitch of either muscle or nerve type movement rather than a shake from nervousness or anxiousness.  Thanks for the replies

Have noted that some dogs push their carpal joint forward and that does seem to cause the tremble, some even stand like that with the carpal joint flexed forward, does not seem to cause a problem except in the show ring where it may be considered a weakness.
